Life expectatance

Hi , My mom is 65 years old and just in the past 2 weeks has been diagnosed with stage 4 squamaous small cell lung cancer. It h as already spread to her liver and kidney. They say she also has a spot on her brain. She had a stroke and they found all of this. She is taking small doses of chemo and her Dr states its for her to have some quality of life and get her affairs in order. He states with the chemo 6 months to a year. Is this the truth and the facts? thank you

Would the strain of chemotherapy hasten her death? I don't know. Would it extend her life? I doubt it.

What confuses me is how chemo can improve quality of life. From everything I have heard the treatment is distressing, to put it mildly. Since your mother's disease is terminal, I should think it would be kinder to let nature take its course. Of course, in that case, a whole bunch of people wouldn't make as much money.
