Just a word of encouragement, I too have a spot on my lung that was found during a routine chest x-ray and a further cat-scan, and finally a biopsy, and it turned out to be calcification from an old chest infection, so not every spot on an x-ray is lung cancer
Good morning;
Yes, it is possible.
My dad will be 75 in February, was a heavy smoker up to 25 - 20 years ago (3 packs a day, Marlboro red box) and a steamfitter most of his working life...he does have lung cancer and the doctors estimate 3 - 6 months, but the palliative treatment is working marvelously well, so he's fully alert, has a good level of energy and mobility...doing much better than we feared
He was initially diagnosed during a followup after treatment of pneumonia back in July - September...
Depending upon the type of tumor, this does not mean your dad will have the same outcome. However the diagnosis points, from my experience thus far, the medicine has advanced so far and the doctors, nurses and other personell have been so professional and kind, it can be the best of a bad situation.
take care, he'll need you strong.
