thank you doctor.
today the hoarseness is reduced, cough still present.
after treating pneumonia, we took radiation almost one and a half month back. doctor suggested for radiation as dad started sever thoracic back pain. some 300 units were given both back and front for upper body only.
since then he has tremendous weakness, hb is reduced to 7 and he has nausea, vommiting, doesnt eat anything. and pain is getting unbearable now.
i m very much worried, what can we do for his pain doctor? it is mainly around scapular area, thoracic back .
thanking you in anticipation.
Hi,
Try to find out regarding the location of the tumor. Most patients with lung cancer who present with voice changes usually have tumor compressing on a nerve that descends into the chest before it rises up the neck to the voice box. If the location of the tumor is indeed close to the windpipe ( trachea - the single air tube that links both lungs and extends up to the back of the throat), we would need to consider that there may be compression. Other symptoms associated with this may be abnormal sensations or deceased sweating on the arm of the same side. If there is attendant difficulty of breathing, some patients are advised to undergo radiation treatment. Others would go for secondary chemotherapy.
I'm assuming that your father is a smoker. Smokers generally have episodes of cough which may be accompanied by voice changes. The doctor would likely evaluate the need for antibiotics - and this treatment may improve both cough and hoarseness.
Discuss your concerns with your doctor and come up with an acceptable plan.
