Massive cold wave over much of US

MSNBC ran a story about 13 states experiencing very cold weather.

Of these places, how many have you been to?

    * -50 in Big Black River, Maine, in what could be a new state record
    * -46 in Embarrass, Minn.
    * -42 in Island Pond, Vt.
    * -42 in Necedah, Wis.
    * -39 in Berlin, N.H.
    * -38 in Monticello, Iowa
    * -36 in Sterling, Ill., possibly tying a state record
    * -35 in Paradox, N.Y.
    * -26 in Stambaugh, Mich.
    * -20 in Valparaiso, Ind.
    * -19 in Lawton, Pa.
    * -16 in Snowshoe Mountain, W.Va.
    * -14 in Dayton, Ohio

On a quick glance at the map, Swampy thinks he has been to 3 of these places, only.

Just driving around, wanting to go somewhere different.

It takes 10 days to drive from Chicago to Yellowknife.

I've been to two of those places (Sterling and Dayton).  I am so tired of all this cold and snow.  I really wish I had a fireplace.  My old house doesn't have insulation so we keep feeling the cold drafts.  Yuck!

Swampy, what took you to the Canadian far north?

I have been to 10 of those states, and I live near Dayton, Ohio. We havent been outside too much. 3 kids just dont seem to understand why they cant play outside!

I grew up in Monticello, IA! My mom was pretty excited to tell me how cold it was that morning. I just can't compete with her, although it was in the negatives here too.

theres 451 schools closed near me (detroit area) everything from prek-college..kida could get frost bite in less than 5 min outside...we been in all day.  Its negative 36 with wind chill 10 farenheight.

Mr. Peek recorded a temp of 7 degrees in Asheville this morning.  

Good thing he has massive amounts of body hair.  

I, on the other hand, enjoyed sitting out in the sun this afternoon.

Normally the two coldest places in the US are International Falls MN, and West Yellowstone MT. The latter has record high temperatures right now.

The farthest north Swampy has ever been was Edzo, NWT. That place is too small for weather underground, but Yellowknife is there. Its also very warn (8 degrees, it should be well below zero)

Yeah I've been feeling the effects of the cold... It hink it's contributing to the headaches I've been feeling this week.

to my shame None!!  But I do intend to visit a lot more states this year no more international visits for a while, I want to see my wonderful country, please stay as warm as you can and as safe as you can , I felt frozen in -1 in England so Lord help what you guys are feeling.

I've been to 7 of the states but possibly only one of the cities...Dayton, OH. And with temperatures like that, I probably will never go to any of them.  I'll just stay here in Florida in our freezing 64 degrees. Burrrrrrrrr.
