For me it was the Freedom ... being able to speak out, coming from socialism it was a blast of fresh air ...
When i visited the states i found almost everyone was so polite and if i needed directions everyone was so helpful and friendly!!!!!
And if Swampy was hungry at 4 am . . . he could probably still find a place that would be serving food.
Swampy likes the fact that if he wants to eat dinner at 4 in the afternoon, there is a restaurant open and happy to serve him.
Thats what I found redhead, there is contention now due to everyones concern about what is happening in America but I have no doubt we will weather that ....we are still the most exceptional country on the Planet ...
In Australia, as I grew up in the late 60's and 70's, we were fed the idea that America was a b-aaaaaa-aaaaa-d place. We had re-runs of American television programmes (yes, even our spelling is different!) that showed the American way of life was full of doom, gloom, murder and mayhem.
I went to USA in 2004 for the first time...I was amazed at how friendly, and sociable the people are there. Middle of the night, in Washington State, the owner of the campground was wonderfully enthused to help us set up a site, and offered us breakfast. You wouldn't get that here in Australia!
Something I love about the place we live is . . . that one can be absolutely passionate about something and can express with pride!
I love the fact that we have freedoms. I hate the fact that people burn the flag but I love the fact that we have freedom to do it!
aww come on you must love a lot more than annoy you surely .....
You know guys thats one of the things I loved when first came here I came from a country area in England you rarely saw any other culture even as you do in the north of England and London,,so to meet the melting pot that is California /America was truly a delight. The DH and I would sit outside the stores and just people watch you have no idea the fun we had, Venice Beach was nearby and that was another hotch potch of folks. It was freedom, you can in this country virtually do what you like, you are and I hope still are allowed to say and do what you want, with out the restraints of administrations telling you what you can and cannot do, running your very existance.Okay I wont say more about that ......but this is a wonderful place to live I really hope America doesnt allow its self to be changed to be like any place that the founding fathers once escaped from ..
I love seeing how people will band together and help out in a time of crisis. I just wish the papers would print more positive stories like that. There's still a lot of goodness in this world. :)
I like that you can come to a place like medhelp and make the best of friends who are really supportive, helpful and understanding.
I agree with Cherie that it's nice to see all races coming together and that there is a melting pot of people.
I like that opportunitys are available for anyone...children can break generations of poverty by trying hard and motivating selfs.
I like that we are almost non racial..lot of improvement sice the 50s no one blinks a eye at a interactional couple,,nor should they.
I like freedom...to make my own choices...I like that my kids can go to school..I like feeling protected by our troops,
Through all we do pull together in times of need,,kinda shows more unity than division..
Oh Lonelymom, that recently happened to me and you are so right! The kindest of couples really helped me out . . . of course, there were other people that yelled nasty things to me as they went around my stalled car . .. but there always seems to be a good samaritan when you need one.
I like that we do live in a country in which people are allowed to differ in opinion and we are not in danger for expressing it.
I like that we still do have a lot of opportunity in this country to make our own destiny.
Even though it is bad for me, I like the occasional fast food burger.
Whenever I used to have car problems, anyone that passed me would stop to make sure I was okay. I like that people still care!
i'm not sure anymore. we're actually thinking about moving up to canada.
In times of need folks still come together to help one another.... :0)
