It is very easy and cheap...I dont know where they get off selling it at $10.00 a pound.
i am offically stealing your recipie, that sounds so good, and not to hard to make
You all wont believe it but Im almost done got a bit creative for our parents, they all have everything they need, so we got photos of the kids and me and the hubby together and had them imprinted into a set of coasters, got m,y sister a beer mug made with pictures or her daughter and my boys, people like sentimental doesnt have to cost a lot
My oldest got a lap top already, he paid 1/2 we ant him to have it for when he joins service, middle boys getting a cell phone , and youngest is getting his own rifle for when they got hunting.
We decided with the kids wed rather get em each one big thing they will have forever than a bunch of cra[ i will eventually throught away.

ooh Mirabella, My Mom would make fudge I adored it have you a recipe for us I would like to make it at Xmas for everyone. Can you give it here or send it me in a message
I actually have completed all of my Christmas shopping. My husband was working quite a bit of overtime a while ago and I used that extra money to buy gifts. I spent the same as I do every year. As far as food all of the family contributes when we gather for our holiday feasts.
On my Mom's side of the family we pick names, we have been doing this for years now, it is just too expensive to get everyone gift, we only spend $50. The kids little kids still get presents from everyone. On my Dad's side of the family I let my brother and sister know not to buy me anything and I will not get them anything. We will however still be buying gifts for each others kids.
It's probably a good idea to cut back on gifts. I hadn't really thought about this yet, but you all have very good suggestions. I think I'll still give my parents an iPod of some type, but everyone else will probably get framed photos as their gifts. I'm an amateur photographer and it's a cheap way to decorate the home. I would love to buy my boyfriend a camera lens, but the one I want to buy is over $1000, so I think he'll also be getting a framed photo.
trudie.. i lie your presents any extra saucses let me know...lol... and sarah very nice touch for your father.. my mom passed last february, so this is the first holiday season withour her and what you all are doing sounds so nice
Thanksgiving here will go on as usual but Christmas will be scaled back. At thanksgiving we set one single red rose on the table in memory of my dad. Skip the presents for me..........i am just happy to be with my kids and my brothers family.
Yes, will be cutting back this year. We are picking names in my husband's family which saves. I did a bunch of canning this fall - spaghetti sauce, ratatouille, chili sauce, and salsa. I'll be using some of this in gifts in combination with some pasta, fresh parmesan and tortilla chips. There are a couple of bigger ticket items we need for the house and may buy those after Christmas in lieu of Christmas gifts for my husband and I and just do stockings at Christmas. Visiting family will still happen. We already had our Thanksgiving in Oct. so no travel until Christmas week.
LOVE, those kinds of gifts..I make fudge as well.
I bought some tins with holiday covers (aluminum with cardboard toppers) from LTD Commodities and I ordered early and have them in-hand already. Going to back the teacher gifts (cookies) with my kids this year and give them out at the holidays vs. a gift.
C~
Yeah, also on disability!! I have envelopes for everything..put money in each one so I dont suffer when something big happens.
Our family as well all brings something to dinner.
I realised after writing the thread its not all about gifts is it ,its about Family and being together.
i am on disability so yea i am spending wasy less, i have grown kids and 3 grandkids, my children understand and all say the same.. just buy the grandkids some presents.. so i will and we will come together and all help with the costs of meals
Two years ago the entire family decided on polyannas. After the young ones have turned 18 then they have a choice to participate. We set a limit of $150. and everyone gets a paper to fill out saying ideas they may want. Thanksgiving we draw names..its pretty fun just drawing the names.
I have cut back in all aspects of purchasing...Every year I would spends several hundred dollars just on flowers for the spring and summer...This year maybe $50.
I dont buy what I dont need anymore...NO antique shopping...no nicknacks...hardly any junkfood...that in its self has been weight control.
Everyone feels the crunch.
I will buy less than usual. I already am. I have scaled back on the cost of my daughters' gifts. I am buying alot, but less expensive things. I would go out of town at Thanksgiving, but I am not this year. It will all still be good, and I think it is good for my children to realize it isn't about the amount or cost of the gift, but the thought and the time with family, so all in all, I think it is a good lesson and we will probably continue that from now on.
