Muslim TV man beheads wife in NY

She asked for a divorce and in return he chopped her head off.  Word has it that it was suppose to be an "honor killing".  I hope he will get the death penalty.  I hope he does not disappear like the muslim father in TX who killed his two beautiful daughters because they became "to western".  He booked out and nobody can't find him.

That's frankly beyond depressing and I wish the more moderate people who are Muslim would take a stance to denounce this kind of abhorent behavior. There are women who have spoken out against it and faced persecution in the few countries that practice this and have sought asylum here on those grounds so honestly more of them should take a stand. I think the people of Afghanistan would only stand to gain if we brought a complete stop to Al Qaeda and Pakistan should work with us to stop them as well. I can't see any degree of freedom in a country that would practice this and since we have allowed many of those people political asylum who were escaping this, in return in a country such as the United States where they can live in freedom they should take a stance against extremist elements within their own religion.

The laws of the United States have to be respected by everyone. There is no question about that. I'd say tolerance means respecting people who might think differently. It doesn't give people the right to violate the law. I agree with you about young people but that's because society and some parents do not set limits as much as they should. There are some programs are television that are fine for adults but not for children. And certainly every parent should monitor what their child is accessing online. But many parents don't. Of course some things are complex. I don't drink alcohol either. and I'd prefer someone not do that at my house. And there are valid reasons to be opposed to it. But in Afghanistan and Pakistan where bars are subject to terrorist assault that's frightening. The Islamic fanatics are opposed to alcohol as well but not for rational reasons. There's a huge difference between being against drinking and forcing morality on people in a violent way. That's not what America is about.
The truth is there will always be different viewpoints on morality from different backgrounds but the laws of the United States of America stand. If young people see their parents or friends using illegal drugs they are likely to think its acceptable. But that's a willful violation of the law. Any immigrant arriving here should be treated with tolerance as to their cultures and belief systems but that in no manner extends to violating our laws. Part of the oath of becoming an American citizen is to obey the laws of the U.S. and if someone breaks those laws they are no longer welcome here. By anyone.

Its like this, if you come over to my house, I don't drink alcohol, and don't want people doing that in my house, then out of respect for me they don't drink. Substitute whatever you want in there. The thing is it is MY house, and I have THE RIGHT to say what goes on in my house and what does not.
The same thing with our country. We have THE RIGHT to set the standards. The reason our country is in such a mess is because there are no standards. There is no right or wrong anymore. Which is so confusing to young people. No wonder they don't know which way to turn.

Tolerance is wishy washy ****. That is a word thrown out to use when people don't like the fact that someone says "your actions are wrong."  And yes we have the right to say things are wrong. If not, then lets throw out all the laws because when people break them they have been told by the judicial system they are wrong.

People have the right to their own cultures but people have to respect the laws and welfare of all Americans. I would certainly say anyone who comes here who would violate the law in such an eggregious fashion does. This is an obvious example. Murder is murder. No rational person would support murder but I do agree that if someone has the photo taken for their driver's license that you should be able to see their face. But I'd rather not go back to when we had forced assimilation of new immigrants. Many people of all ethnic backgrounds, including western European nations had to give up parts of their culture that were important to them and did not detract from America. Some aspects of American culture, language being an easy example were taken from other cultures. Tolerance is a virtue and I would not stop it. That is part of the American way. But there is no reason to tolerate hatred and intolerance certainly if its directed against us because anyone who does that is trying to detract from our freedoms and frankly doesn't belong here to begin with.

You got it right Peggy.  I'm clapping, lol  I have always felt that things happen, for the most part, because we TOLERATE them.  We claim that we don't want certain things to happen here, but they often happen because we either directly, or indirectly allow them to.
