I wondered the same thing! I didn't understand why they still lived in the slums. Surely they were paid for the movie? I wonder if the parents did something with the money?
Did you all hear, too, about the little girl who played the main character? I heard her dad tried to sell her after the movie.
That movie really disturbed me too. I couldn't get some of those images out of my head. Those poor kids. They sure have to grow up fast. What kind of childhood do they really have?
i didn't see the movie (and don't really care to...seems lame) but i did see an article about the "child star" on yahoo how he and his family were promised a nice house and all kinds of money but once the movie was finished filming he and his family were tossed back out on the streets and a few months after that his families little shack was bulldozed down b/c his government decided to put in sewage system there or something of the sorts.
I watched the movie and didn't care for 3/4's of it. At least that is what I thought when it was over. Then, that night I couldn't sleep. I was up 3/4's of the night thinking about parts of the movie that had really impacted my inner peace. I cannot recall in a very long time a movie that had that much meaning caught up between the screenshots and the words. It was really quite compelling.
I'm not sure what to believe about the child stars and their current homes. I saw a tabloid showing one of the slumhouses being torn down and they claim they didn't know it belonged to the child star and was being knocked down according to some kind of guidelines.
