my kids never get a set amount every week, we found they slacked on their chores now they get paid per job, if I dont feel like cleaning the kitchen I will pay one $5.00 , thye get paind $10.00 for mosing lawn or shoveling snow. $1.00 for folding a basket of clothes, it depends on the chore.

I gave my girls some spending money once in awhile before they were old enough to get jobs.  They saved their money and bought their own cars and paid for half of their insurance.  They both had chores around the house to do also.

I think your correct!!  It shouldnt be everytime.  And it doesnt matter how much..just so they know that what they did CAN earn them rewards.....I do believe everyone should do some things out of the kindness of their heart and not to expect rewards every time.

That is  what I tell my Daughter, she says her twins should do chores for free, I disagree as I did give her money when she was a youngster, however it wasnt very much or very consistant.

Pocket money...given when my son helps with out moaning or groaning when asked to do something. He is given more pocket money when he does it without being asked.

He has to pay half his insurance each month...by working in the barn every week.  I bought an extra car...an oldie but goodie..to sign over to him when he graduates...only when he graduates...so now the smarty is going to graduate a year and a half early because he has all his credits.

I think pocket money is good for rewards.

Good question.  Pocket money ..........what we've been doing with the teens is give them lunch money for the week.  If they eat it in the cafeteria and spend it fine, or they can bring their own lunch from home and that's fine, too, and keep the extra money.  If their room is tidied up and their wash is done and bathrooms not like a a hurricane ran thru them, they get a few $'s allowance ea. week.  Also, opportunity to mow the lawn for extra $, too.

They are older so we pretty much expect them to contribute toward clothing that is not essential in nature, nor will I fund ten thousand trips to Starbucks to meet their friends at $4.00/cup of java over there ....

One works a p/t job and the other one babysits or does things for me around the house above and beyond what's expected .. so I give a few $'s.

Everything is very costly out there ..... they never seem to have enough money no matter what I hand out or they contribute towards.

And gas in the tank, they are expected to contribute 1/2 of it .. they have to have responsibility along the way growing up.
