Artist, specializing in Trompe L'oiel and Murals. But spending a lot of time on ladders and scaffolding has caused physical problems, so I'll hopefully be able to sell more of my paintings on canvas.

For the past 20 plus years I was a legal secretary/paralegal and also worked as an executive secretary for a "crazy" psychiatrist for 3 years!  LOL!!!!  Currently, I'm the collections manager for a large dental company in Utah.  I actually look at it as helping people and honestly enjoy what I'm doing!  I train new employees on our computer system and go to individual offices and help them audit accounts, train their staff in collection procedures, and assist my boss who is the director of our market with various matters.  My boss is also tutoring me and is looking at promoting me as an operational manager when that position becomes available.

I'm also a wife!  I also take care of my mother who lives with us and is disabled.  She can be quite a handfull some days!  LOL!!!

MJ, at least you got the interview. Some people get their applications thrown into the garbage can. I hope you get that job. I really do. Think about it, you could even buy more seeds and stuff for your flower collection AND get a new computer. You'd love an Apple machine. Those are cool!

Iladvocate, I love boats. I want to buy one, seriously. I live in a beach area, so EVERYBODY has a boat. I live close to a boat dealer. Excuse me if I sound iliterate when it comes to boats...I AM lol....

Well until I can recover physically (may not be possible but medicine advances) I do very part time telecommuting that is looking up boats for someone who sells them on an international level (though they are a small family business) and then looking up the individual boats they decide to potentially buy and resell to check on the creditability of the owner. That takes up a short period of time each day. I find it reasonable. As for my advocacy that is from a non profit (the function as board president is something I was elected, other people founded the agency and there will be other b.p.'s in the future, many people are more out and about than me in the work the do) it involves a variety of things but completely unpaid (mostly disability, fair housing, immigrants rights) and some community activism as well. Frankly, being homebound can't think of a time of day where I'm not "plugged in" as to what's going on (certainly on a local level) and this really does sustain me (with what's happenned to me) and something that's a crucial part of my life. I'm more interested in other people's suggestions for ideas of what could be done for society than my own ambitions and sometimes making them a reality.

student when i'm not disabled with the chronic migraines (out of the 3 school terms per year, i tend to have to withdraw from at least one term, usually two terms) i studied physical/biological anthropology. graduated last year, college degree. want to eventually go into nursing i think. changed my mind about my career path (originally thought i'd go for the phd in physical anthropology and become a college professor) after my life changed with all of this migraine stuff, i realized that i needed to seriously restructure my career plans so that i actually HAD career plans and so that i wasn't stuck in school forever... and so that i'd also have a job that consisted of not only a subject i adored, but also work that i adored. and, although being a uni prof would have fit the ticket in terms of adoring the subject to bits (biological anthropology), the work (writing papers) would have destroyed my soul. nursing, on the other hand, fits both criteria, i adore science and i know that i adore administering first aid so i figure that nursing would be a fairly satisfying career.

currently i'm feeling somewhat dejected about going back to school at the though because the whole never knowing which 1 or 2 of the three terms i'll have to withdraw from (and lose $2000-$4000 because of it... it's like gambling every school term!)... the last term was a pretty hard blow because i was REALLY enjoying my classes, chem and bio... loved them... and, it was really nice taking the next steps after graduating with my first degree... felt like i was really going somewhere... oh well. but, i know that money is made for spending and spending it on education is likely one of the better things to "waste" it on and life is always going to be a gamble and i have no control over my health... i know i just have to surrender to that and eventually i'll get better and  it'll all be okay... or something.

so yeah. don't really have a profession at the moment. unless you count part-time student when i'm not screaming my head off in pain.

I had the interview.  They asked me some detailed questions. There were two people (sort of ganged up on me, lol) but they were fairly nice.  They wanted me to explain what things I did in my past jobs, tell them what I do in the conservatory, etc... Thankfully I wasn't caught off guard, but I forgot the word "Freesia" and told them "lily like things that are in the garden."  Then she aked me where's that?  I thought to myself, she's in the conservatory and not seen the gardens??????????  No I didn't say it. I told her it would be worth the trip.  With a laugh she said, it wouldn't be too far.

They read a letter of recommendation written from one of the people who is helping me and asked me why they said I am good at communication and a people person.  They als asked me what I would do if there was an unruly child or if someone was pocketing merchandise...

I think overall it went positive. I still have to learn how to use the cash register, which may be a slight drawback.  I'd be working 8 hour shifts if it works well. I'm going for part time.  I'm quite nervous, but trying to take things as they come.  They said they would train me.

I just wish I didn't have such a blank look and feeling when they ask if I have any questions.

Your job sound interesting. I hope it goes well.

Good Luck MJ. Everything changes. Nothing stays the same. That's why there is a past, a present and a future. There is something for you out there. I'm sure.

Trial, wind turbines are easy to comprehend. Your girl would understand how everything works in a blink of an eye :) I will be going to a site this year. I don't know how long I'll stay there but I'm sure it'll be fun, climbing turbines, troubleshooting, and having fun with the wind techs in the middle of nowhere lol. We do a lot of QI stories, which we adopted from the Japanese, and Six Sigma projects as well.  Like you I have plenty of time off due to my 12 hour schedule. I only work 14 days in a month. Wind turbines falling over? I've seen towers with huge cracks, and I've seen some of our old technologies turbines fall, but it doesn't happen often. In Canada there are mostly Vestas turbines, at least owned by us. Vestas are pretty good and have high wind shut down built in. So when the winds speeds are between 34-40 mph, these shut down instead of generating as this can potentially damage the blades and the generator (s). It's pretty interesting the functionality of a wind turbine, or a gas turbine for that matter.

I work for the State of NY in Buffalo. I examine specific programs in the budget to see if they perform well and if so should more money be given, but I also have to find out which programs do not work and recommend cuts.
Do I like it...at times. I deal with Criminal Justice so it can be fun.

I am a full-time stay at home mom! Two girls (2yr and an 11 month old), and yes I know I'm crazy for having them that close.  And no, it wasn't an accident!  I thought I'd clear that up b/c people always ask me that.  I love it.  I feel like I was born to be a mom which is so far from what I would have thought 3 years ago!!  I also clean 2 dental offices on the weekend for some extra "mad money"!  I have my CNA and RA but, don't plan on working at a "real" job anytime soon! :)
