I'd love to see some pictures of your horses. They facinate me, but unfortunately, we have no place to keep a horse. :( I saw a show featuring really mini horses (size of a dog). They were training them to be service animals, like service dogs, only mini horses. That was interesting.
Sometimes I went to the WI state fair and took a look at the animals, including the horses. That was neat.
I am crazy about horses. I have always loved them. I do not have one, but sure wish I did.
I have been riding off and on since I was 5, taught riding lessons in Arizona, and was fortunate enough to be in a Western Pleasure horse show where I came in third.
I really miss being around those wonderful animals. I have horse statues, horse books, and of course, whenever I am around them, I have to pet them. When we go to the fair, those are the barns that I always go to first.
I hope someday I will be able to go riding again.
should i upload a couple of pics of her?? PK1 loves the pics of our little nag!!
Weve got a standardbred and shes beautiful!! 14.2 hands The biggest brown eyes and longest lashes, long black mane and tail, shes mainly used for paddock bashing though, but she can jump when she wants too!!
That does sound interesting. Wow! What a compliment to you and your horse. I had a pony once, does that count? Her name was kingdom. I am one of those people that talk with their hands and it was the first time I had ever been to an auction. I ended up with a goat, a pony, a pig, and two sheep. Well, what a mess! I took em home and the sheep had babies, I tried to shear em and that is a whole nother story. I ended up taking em all back and trying to recoup my money, but I kept the pony for my then 10 year old daughter. The pony took a likin to a female horse down the road and I spent more time than not taking the sugar bowl and trying to coax her back home. My mother always did tell me I had to learn everything the hard way, god rest her soul. Think she might be right at that! Anyways Congrats!
we just had a colt born a few weeks ago...and dropped another mare off to foal about a week ago. NO MORE COLTS PLEASE...lol. we are getting over-run with studs ! ! ! there's two yearlings...just cut one last friday because of his "attitude"...sooooooo studdy. now we have the new one...so we're hoping for a little filly this go around.
if you'd like to see what western pleasure is all about these days...you can see my aunt on youtube. she has two videos on there right now. do a search for...ona good impulse. she had a great year last year on her mare that she raised from a baby...i think she won every major show...including congress and the world.
Wow!! That's sounds awesome. I showed a bit when I was little (western pl also). Now we just ride for fun. Right now our buckskin mare's pregnant, expecting the foal anyday now!! Just got a paint a couple months ago for the girls. She's really gentle, definately a kids pony.(she follows my husband around everywhere!)
That sounds like a great opportunity. I get so sad when I see horses now, when I was 13 my mom and step dad bought me a black quarter horse that I named Destiny. The person we bought her from lied about her age and her physical health so I never got to full fledged ride her but I had a great time caring for her, she was my life. We then bought a retired race horse named Royal Pepper and she was pregnant when we bought her. We got to witness her give birth to a little Philly named Kepi. Our horses were so much fun while we had them but my step dad made some horrible business moves and our farm and home were repossessed including all of the animals.
I don't have any horses now, but my father was a horseman so I did ride a bit. Only English though - had no choice in the matter - that was my fathers thing. I do remember going to someone elses stable when I was around 13 or so and a lady let me ride her Quarter Horse. It was the first time I ever used a Western Saddle. It felt so much better than an English saddle and to not have to post! ;o)
A "despooking clinic" - that must have been fun and yes I can imagine it being a little scary too. Well at least a "Gelding" has already sort of been "despooked" already;o)
There seems to be quite a few women on forum who own horses. One of the girls on one of the forums transports horses (airplane) as part of how she makes a living. I remember when I first read that, I had to smile to myself because though she was in no way bragging, I knew she knew her stuff. Transporting horses is not something that just anyone can do - as I know you would know.
Well good luck with your new horse. It certainly does sound exciting to become part of a Search and Rescue Team.
Take care,
MO
I don't have horses but have always loved them. Last summer my husband worked at the race track and I got to visit the barns. They were standard bred horses for harness racing. They were so affectionate demanded attention. They would nuzzle my neck and some would lick me......almost like big goofy dogs :)
The Clysdales came to visit and I got to "pet" them. They are really huge but also very friendly.
aww...I don't have horses and have never owned one. I love horses. I love everything about those creatures. I hate when people abuse them. My grandpa had many horses but I never knew how to ride. He lived in the country and I live in the city. Had I lived with him I would have known everything about horses.
That does sound exciting the search and rescue , I used to ride many moons ago but have not done any for a lon time I was thrown by one once ,sailed over his head, I didnt even break a bone, my daughter has done a lot of riding ,lives in the Uk used to own a shire horse, he was a beauty , sold him he now takes folks around in a carriage .
