I went to a craft store bought inexpensive wooden serving trays, had my boys go through magazines and cut out pictures of things they thought their grandma would like, like flowers, animals and some silly things, they painted the trays glued the photos on then when it was dry we painted over it with decopage, when dryed it looked really sweet, it cost less than 10 dollars to make, and the Grandmas treasure them.
Thanks...Have no grandmas..all deceased as well as my parents. Thought this would be great for boys. Even though I read that you do not give teddy bears to those older than say 8 or 9. What do they know. Everybody needs to give/get a hug. When in doubt, they would know that I think of them often and love them. (May not always love the things they do ). Madlyn
Although I am not certain this was the poem...it was similar, and this one would work just as well!
You have a special place in my life
that you’ve had from the very start.
I see your smile when I close my eyes -
your name is written on my heart.
For the times I can’t be with you
and perhaps you’re feeling blue
I’m sending you a bear hug
with love from me to you.

I had him use a coloured pen...he was only 7 at the time...and it was PAINSTAKINGLY difficult to make him sit down and copy out the poem...It was HUGE...that's why I shrunk it to fit 4 on one page...but I did make a "COLOUR" photocopy and then I laminated it, and put a Hole punch in the top, tied a ribbon around a teddy bears neck, (not too big of a teddy bear.) (about12" high?)
I know the grandma's cherish these teddy's.
Please, would you mind posting the poem. Madlyn
Those calendars are really a neat gift.
There are photo places at most malls that can help to create the next gift on this holiday Have your children pose for a picture and have the picture printed on either a tee shirt or a tote bag. Once you have this in possession, go and purchase some fabric paints. Let your child add their personal stamp on this gift. Again, a nice sentiment of handprints is a great idea. This is a gift that grandparents will easily be able to proudly show off to all of their friends, making it a perfect homemade and personalized gift from grandchild to grandparent.
Or you could do a calander for the yr of 2009 with different photos of the family and kids
I have an angel for my treetop that my youngest daughter made when she was almost 4. They had a santa's workshop for the little ones, this was back in 1986 and she made this angel out of a white paper plate with one strand of yellow yarn for the hair. She colored the body and the face. Every year it is the first thing to go on the tree. My oldest daughter made a pair of mittens for me out of construction paper at Christmas and they are the on the tree every year also. These are the most treasured gifts........
