Your new name is Martha stewart LOL your good..the idea of doing a cardboard is soooo true I have painted a few rooms in current home where I thought I liked the pain on sm 1 inch sample when on walls it was too dark.

In apt they allow painting ask for not too dark colors as they must re-paint white when one moves out.
Flat paint hides flaws but what about "wash ability" I have a Grandson 6 months whos gonna grow and be putting those cute little hands everywhere.

the living room is odd desgn,,,the two width walls are hardly anything to paint one has entrance door and large window,,other has large archway into dining room.
the two length walls one is all the way would be focal wall. other is cut into by upstairs staircase.

I get what your saying about furniture but I really wanted to paint before moving in. I get keys 4 days early thought Id paint day 1, move boxes day 2 and 3 ..furniture day 4.

I looked at jcpenneys outlet store can get slipcoves cheap..will do, will have to be brown. I will leave peach chair peach. couches will match.

My bathroom shower curtain is stripes teal, mocha and very pale yellow. I am going to  paint room pale yellow....the teal is too bright and who wants a brown bathroom LOL

as you can tell Im having great fun with this,,,,its wonderful to be happy again. You all are the very best people.

LOL, me again..... If you have the money, I would suggest (like others did), getting slip covers. Perhaps Brown to cover the burgundy and peach and leave the brown couch as is. Then your paint options for your walls is wide open. If you like monochromatic, paint the walls tan or taupe, if you want to add some color ,you can paint the walls Ice Blue or light dusty green.  Lots of colors look great with brown!

Oh, also, Flat paint will hide flaws in the walls much better than satin or a gloss. Eggshell is the next step up from flat. Save yourself the frustration and always buy a really good paint.

A few suggestions to avoid costly and time consuming mistakes.....................
Don't rush into painting until you get a good feel for the room  and placement of furniture.
When picking paint colors, buy a small sample of paint choices, and paint a full poster board with each color. Then tape it up and move it around the room to get a good feel for the color and how it goes with furniture and lighting. Most paint colors will look VERY different from the 1 inch sample in the store to a large wall or whole room.
If painting in darker colors, use a good, washable flat paint. Darker colors with any gloss look terrible. Darker colors will also take at least 3 coats, the darker the color, the more coats you will need.
When trying to bring mismatched colors together, considered a faux finish that will bring the colors together. This can make a room look like you purposely intended these colors to go together. Perhaps a Peach color base with a very open brown and burgundy glaze on top.
Consider painting 3 walls with each color of the furniture and put the furniture in front of a different color......peach wall with brown couch...etc.
Hope this helps.

Hi Cherie...first, congrats on your new life!  You're really sweet and you deserve to be happy after all you've been through.

Okay, colors.  My sister has done walls in different shades of taupe and mochas.  Came out really good.

I love grey walls as they are a neutral that goes with most anything.  Slipcovers are a good idea too.

Why don't you get slip covers for some of your chairs and do something to work with the brown couch you have. That way you can work with mochas and beige and stuff.. and throw in a splash of teal somewhere. I dunno. but consider slipcovers..

Just a bit of advice...We had the brilliant idea to paint a focal point wall in our living room red...let me tell you the darker colors are so difficult to paint yourself.....So be careful with darker colors like terricotta, browns and reds....
We had to have a proffessional come and do it properly.....

its such a hodge podge Teko...the burgandy is a lazyboy sofa, and the brown is a more formal yet still large sofa..I had a country style decor..but want to slowly change to modern...I like the terra cotta idea. I alos thought put the burgandy pillows on the brown sofa and the brown pillows on the burgandy sofa...

Wow! That is tuff without having an idea of the style of the couch, or the general decor of the living space but first thing that comes to mind is a neutral such as a cool beige/off white maybe or you could even do one wall a different color to make it a focal point, like maybe a terricotta color or pull a color out of something you have like a couch cushion or even the drapes? I always liked to pull a color out of the fabric somehow and add it in threes somewhere in the room.
