Flurry of Earthquakes a concern ?
Well I have felt some this past week in California ,and I see in the news that Venezuala, Guatamala, Haiti of course, now the Cayman Islands , San Francisco 2 weeks ago had 2 quite large jolts ...I am not a person who scares too easily yet I have bought in more bottles of water and placed them around the house , I think we can survive quite a few days without food, but water we need..whats you concern if any about these happening all around the same time.I was involved in the Northridge Quake .there was a flurry of Califonia quakes around that area before that big one hit ...
I have only been through hurricanes and ice storms. Those can put in a bad mood too because you are wet and cold and there's no electricity. If I don't get a certain amount of caffine in a day, I am really cranky.
The Haiti earthquake is just terrible. I remember the one in San Francisco a really long time ago. That one was bad too. They come on quick with no warning and people aren't prepared. At least you can usually prepare for a hurricane or ice storm.

Thank you mayflowers I know you didnt I have been jumpy today we have had like masses of rain my yard is flooded out and I am holding my breath 2 huge Eucalyptus trees dont come toppling down, they arent near the house but the soil around them has loosend , I am not my usual sunny angelic self .....LOL So earthquakes I dont need .. but you are right you get used to them anyway I did go through a large one and although we werent injured ,folks I know were , and I grieve for the people of Haiti as we all do .
I didn't mean to sound like you shouldn't be afraid of earthquakes. I saw afterwards that you do live in CA. They are very scary and cause alot of devastation when they hit. It does seem like the fault lines are shifting around lately. It is scary....I hope there aren't more quakes.
Well apparently it was unusual to be getting a flurry in other countries around the same week or so, and whether or not we get 'bad 'quakes here its pretty scary and people die and are injured as in the Northridge Quake ..oh incidently we do have a lot of faults in California Sam Andreus being one of them ..
Aren't earthquakes pretty common already? Unless you live in a state that has alot of faults, or are in Haiti, you should be ok.

I agree that earquakes are a regualr thing ,but they are saying so many happening at the same time in differant countries is 'unusual' best thing to do is be prepared , I have got water in differant areas ,as as I see it one can survive that way for a long time .I hear they are still bringing out folks alive in Haiti,the human body and Mind is a lot stronger than we think....
this is soooo scary.....makes me wonder it its really going to happen....the end.... like lonelymom says.... im very very worried
Every Monday my local news paper displays a map of the world and points out all the earth quakes for the past week. Every week! In the last 20 years we here in Western NY state have lived through three earth quakes. Grant it, the largest was only a 3.0 centered just across the border in Canada... Earth quakes are a regular thing everywhere and it's only the politically convenient that make a long lasting event to the international news.
I just found some interesting stuff ...go to . earthquake.usgs.gov..I also learned that on the 15th Jan there was a 4.0 in Oklahoma ...10th Jan 6.5 in N California ...ansd a 4.5 the other morning, must be the one I felt. The ElarmS.System connects to 300 seismometers in N CA and we get a 60 second earthquake warning...well thats a full minute I guess its time to go for a pee, grab a bottle of water ,and your animals and run ........into the road ...I wonder how they give the warning as we would be asleep in the night and I dont sleep with the TV or radio on,,maybe a siren ?..
hummm they must take it pretty seriously maybe they also put up warnings in Newport Beach, tell you what though how much warning will we get , we get these monthly updates when the TV goes off and the emergency warning comes on but thats no good if we are sleeping ,that one I felt the other day was at 4am..You know I am going to google this area and see what they say ..Twe you could put Florida in and see what you come up with ..
Yeah Margy, those of us who live along the San Andreas fault line, here in California, should be very concerned. It's been relatively dormant... but, its long overdo to give way to some kind of activity. Recently, our city began placing Tsunami warning signs throughout our beaches. So, all of this makes me feel a bit... uneasy.
I know they have always said we are at risk here in California for a big one, even bigger than Northridge ,The San Andreus Fault has always been a problem ,as a say I am never unduly afraid but somehow the other early morning tremor at 4am when my bed shook left me with a red flag flying high ..its the flurries that concern me ..So I did a check of batteries for the radio and I always have a stock of water in , but I get cans in and then we eat them ...so I need more .I live in a tall house with a second level I am selling it and I will feel better in a ranch house ..less to fall down .

I caught the tail end of a news report that said they're expecting a bigger earthquake than the one that hit Haiti but I didn't catch where they think it will hit. Do you guys know where they are speculating such a big earthquake to hit?
Yeah I know it has been worrying me as well. When we were getting mild tremors here in Texas it was a concern! I could turn this into a topic of religion and tell you the time is near and these are our signs but instead I am just going to say yes this worries me too.
