Gardenia bugs

My gardenia plant has on the top of some of its leaves this teeny tiny white speck. I mean TINY. The thing is, there are a billion of them and they spread. I washed them all off the first time but they are back. Its crazy. What are they and how can I get rid of them? Since keeping my plant more than damp, I have the most amazing flowers on it, so I dont want to have to throw it out. It smells lovely. Any ideas?

It's a bad year to be a gardenia. lol Mine got knocked over by my cats and I didn't find it for a bit-dried out Again. poor thing. I gave up and put mine outside too. We've had so much rain here and so much more forcasted that I figure God can water it. hee,hee
It will probably end up getting too much rain and rotting.

Well, so far so good. I sprayed the plant with avons skin so soft. lol The only drawback so far was that it took to days for the plant to not smell like the spray. So, we will see...

You could try a sunlight dish soap and water combination. I find it works well for most pests.

I found this website about mealybugs, http://www.ehow.com/info_8175563_bugs-white-spots-stem-gardenia.html
Hope this helps.

well, no, they are not those. They are white, but so small, like a speck. I washed them off and they came back. I vacuumed them off and they came back. I really dont want poison on my houseplants,so I am not sure what I will do, but I have to do something.
