Welcome to the Medhelp Gardening Community

Here's a great place to introduce yourself, what kind of garden you have or trying to grow. Not all gardens have to take a lot of land.

One thing I've learned from biking and walking through my neighborhood is the great variety of gardens I see. Even simple container gardens can be quite showy.

Hi all!

I have recently taken a dive back into the gardening community. Long story short, I used to have a philodendron that was about 15 years old. It was the love of my life until in one short week my mother in law killed it.

Three years later. I bought two pothos plants at the local home depot and they seem to have wilted over night. WHY? What's the best way to care for a pothos plant?

Hi! I have a backyard garden with asparagus and rhubarb perennials that come up every year.  It's a large garden that is fenced in with some chicken wire type stuff to keep the deer out and we have 3 large bins of compost in various stages (1 is quite good and ripe).  The garden is large, maybe like 12 by 14 feet in area, possibly.  We bought our house last August and I am at a loss of what to plant next spring.  This year we just enjoyed the asparagus and rhubarb and although I tried to plant tomatoes I didn't plant them in the garden and deer came and ate them.  They also ate most of our bushes and berries and anything they could get their mouths on.

So this fall, wondering when to cut back things... the asparagus went to seed (they had berries grow on them).  Not sure if to cut them all back now or wait until early spring?  Also wondering/realized I took the decayed rhubarb leaves and threw them in the compost pile... rhubarb leaves are poisonous... so did I just ruin my compost heap?  A neighbor told me she'd come rototill my garden (the middle part that's not the rhubarb or asparagus).  When should she come?  Haven't heard from her in a bit since she's like mega busy... I'm imagining it should be before the ground gets hard from too many frosts.

And what to plant next year?  I have NO CLUE!!!

Just make sure to post it in the "houseplants identified" topic when you're ready. Chances are right if it seems rather "happy", not wilting or suffering then it can stand to stay in the pot a bit longer.

Quite a few houseplants don't mind being root-bound, but if you find it drying out constantly (almost daily), tipping over, or wilting, then it may need a bigger pot. Usually when you repot a plant, you don't want to pick a size too much larger than the pot the plant is in. I'll see if I can find some resources about repotting plants and put it in another topic.

Thank you MJ for your response. I will take a picture and post as you suggested but it may be a couple of days before I can get to it. No hurry anyway just the plant looks like it could use more room to grow but ,I don't want to kill it.........I will let you know when I have posted the pic. Thank you again!

If you can take a photo of it and post it with your new thread, maybe I can find out what type it is. Some tropical plants you can even take cuttings and transplant the cuttings. That way you get a "back-up" plant to keep alive in case anything should happen to your main plant.

Hi, I have a tropical plant I think may need transplanted into larger pot.  I can't  tell you what kind of plant it is because I don't know. I call it "DUKES" plant because I have taken care of it since my younger brother Duke passed away in 2000. (it was his plant) It is getting really big now and a couple of new trees/growths started growing from the trunk over the summer months. (It is in a large clay pot)  Should I wait untill spring to repot? Does it matter? or would it damage or even worse kill it? This plant is very special to me.  I know this is not much to gone on.  I would post a picture if I knew how. Does anyone know anything about Tropical Plants?   Please Help.
