Hi again!
Following my irregular heavy spotting and then bleeding (all started on 13 Sept and all stopped 7 Oct) I had blood tests done to check hormone levels. The tests reveal the following:
Estradiol 1447 pmol1/1
FSH 12.7 IE/1
LH 13.5 IE/1
Progresterone 1.4 nmol/1
I'm new to this field (!) but learning fast -- it is clear my progresterone levels is looooow, right? I would greatly appreciate your opinion and/or suggestions. I was thinking of natural progresterone cream?
Thank you so very much,
It's likely that you're simply entering the stage of perimenopausal symptoms that you never had before because you've been regulated by hormonal manipulations through the meds that has evened things off and kept a "balance" in hormones before stopping it. A lot of us have been through or are going through what you are experiencing right now and it doesn't necessarily mean that there's anything "wrong". It's quite typical to have this type of thing happen but, shocking to us when we've never had it happen before.
Estrogen dominance is more common because while both progesterone and estrogen levels fall during perimenopause, progesterone drops further than estrogen so that the ratio is less in progesterone than estrogen.
Two to 3 pads daily is perfectly acceptable and nothing to be concerned about. They consider it "extensive bleeding" when you are soaking through a thick pad an hour or less for more than 24 hours. You're not even close! :)
Right now, you've not had this as a "constant" thing so, it's likely very normal and nothing to worry about. Just keep a "diary" of your periods and see how they go. You're likely not at the point of being anemic from this bleeding this month so, other than eating well, you may simply just want to wait this out and see how it goes. There are lots of women who have posted that they've bled heavily for 3 weeks or more and still no sign of letting up. This isn't unusual to have happen. Next month could be a perfectly normal period!
If you're still concerned about this, give your doc a call or make an appointment to discuss this with him/her. Right now, I think that the best that you'd be told is to wait and see what it does. :) One period like this is nothing to be concerned about at all. It's simply an annoyance and not what you've been used to while on the med. But, it wouldn't hurt to have your doc do a blood test to determine your levels of FSH, LH as well as estrogen and progesterone as a "guide", if you do decide to go in and see him/her. Right now, unless this period drags on for a couple of weeks more, I'd just wait and see. It will likely slow down and stop within the next week or so. I wouldn't discourage you though in at least talking to your doc about it. Worrying can be worse than anything! :)
Let us know how you make out!
