Light Breathing A Cause Of Headaches?

Hi,,

I've suffered from headaches and migraines for a number of years due to a variety of reasons (I am blind in one eye, and get headaches caused by light sensitivity, and migraines run in my family) but I've just thought of something and I'd like to know any possible opinions on the matter.

I am a very light breather, and sometimes i can even go 10-15 seconds without breathing without even realising I am doing it, I've noticed a correlation between my headaches and moments when my breathing is lightest, or when I tend not to breathe as much. Is this likely to be a cause? Could I be causing myself damage? Should I talk to my GP about the issue?

Hi,

Thanks for writing in.
Studies have shown that deep breathing relieves tension due to better oxygenation and has been found to relieve headaches.

So it is possible that shallow breathing is giving you headaches. Please make sure you do some breathing exercises every day.
Take care!

In high altitudes headaches can be a symptom of altitude sickness and I have often wondered about them as a sign of inadequate oxygen in the brain causing migraines.  I don't think they normally test for localized oxygen levels as everytime I am at the doctor they just do an overall finger test and call it good.  Personally I think they'd learn more if they would start being a bit more comprehensive about migraines.  Something has to cause the migraines--oxygen, blood deficiency, chemical, something.

ur light breathing could be the result of something else....poss a neuro issue....see ur dr and explain what is going on.Neuro issues can also b the cause of the light sensitivity and headaches.

I have many neuro issues and am a mouth breather, so it should be checked in ur situation.

Good luck
