Persisent Painful Headache ( Pressure)

I have recently been discharged from the hospital after being admitted with a persistent headache for over 10 days. The headache is not migraine in nature as there is no sensitivity to light , sound or movement. There is constant pain in the center of the brain ( pressure) no dizziness or loss of feeling. The pain at times is intolerable. I have had MRI, MRA MRV CT and Lumbar all came back normal. I am right now taking 25 mg Topomax 2x day and 75 mg Lorotabs 4-6 x day for pain. I cannot live in a daze and the pain is always about q 7 1/2-8 on the 1-10 scale. I am ready for the "magic bullet" just to put me out of my misery"  Everyone says its just a migraine, but this is day 15 now with no end in sight.....

I am ready to start looking to go to the Mayo Clinic or something. I am a Banker that cannot work as I am medicated and transposing numbers so they will not let me go back to work.... HELP

I am 45 and no menstrual cycle over 2 yrs. I don't drink soda often unless over at a friends house or party then i chose that over alcohol.  I eat fresh veggies n fruits when i can afford them frozen most. I have been trying self relaxation and meditation for about 4 days now with no visible changes. The headache still sits at this time at about a 7.5

I am 49 and never suffered from migraines before, however for over 5 months I have been unable to function on some days.  Not good as I work & have a family of 6 to deal with.  I have been through every test and scan available and they have found nothing (good I guess).  I have several medications but most don't touch the pain.  My headaches  last for 48 hrs. and afterwards I can barely get off the couch.  I have tried all the homepathic methods and have gotten slight relief - enough to get through a day.  I am now trying a new route that uses the premise of hormones as the cause (due to my age). In addition, I have altered my diet to include more organic, home made type products - no going out to eat, and no soda.  You don't mention your age or gender but if you are female and 45+ it could be those nasty hormones.  Good luck

Well it is now the 17th of May with no.end in sight for the headache. The dr has taken me off all pain mess and increased the topomax to 50mg 2x day and put cymbalta in the mix with relepax. So far this has changed nothing the pain is still.sitting at about an 8. I am now on med leave from work indefinately for this and am looking at the wall as an alternative painkiller to bang my head against if something doesn't change soon. I am noticing my moods are changing a my temper is much shorter due to the pain. I.am taking this day by day right now.

Just read this as I am in hospital at the moment as I have been suffering with a constant headache that I have day and night since january the 12th. So I have had it about 4 months now. They diagnosed me wih chronic migrane and say there is no cure but you can try different medications and treatments. It never goes below a 3 on the 1-10 and mostly is between a 5-8 although many times it has been a 10 and I have. Had to go to hospital for help as I can not stand it. Morphine or any painkillers such as codeine or ibuprofen never touch it. The only thing that eve relieves the pain is entenox gas. But as soon as I stop breathing it it comes back straight away. I have tried amytripteline, proprananol and atleast 15 other medicatioons all that have not worked yet. Let me know how you get on? As my headaches constantly feel like pressure inside my head also. And when its bad throbbing is put into the mix also.

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hi,
How are you? It is good to know that the tests done were normal and this indeed suggests  primary headaches such as migraine, tension or cluster headache. Sometimes, migraine do not have associated symptoms but only the headache. Rest, avoidance of triggers, both preventive and abortive medicine usually help provide relief. If your present medications are not helping, inform your doctor for proper management. There are also complementary and alternative medicine such as biofeedback therapy or acupuncture that have been effective to some headache sufferers. You can also try the headache tracker in this forum to help you identify the possible triggers of the headache. Hang on and stay positive. Take care and do keep us posted.
