I had a craniotomy in September of 2001. It was for a cavernous angioma in the right frontal lobe. When I woke up I did have some burning streaming down my face. The pain medicine helped it. I have other medical problems, some witch include nerve damage. I have been on morphine for 12 years. These headaches started to grow worse as the months went by. It is where the plate is on the right side of my head. It burns like fire in about 5 places streaming from the incision site down my jaw by my ear, down to my eyebrow, down the right side of my nose into my gum. When the headaches start it hurts to move my hair, or touch my head. Like where the screws are. It is horrible. I am getting a tolerance to my pain medicine, so the pain is out of control. I am not able to function with these headaches. They are a 10 on a scale of 1-10. I get two a day at times. I know it is some sort of nerve damage. It is funny, when I tell the doctor where it hurts and what it feels like, he doesn't say anything. I finally typed my symptoms into the internet. It said that I may have damage to the 5th cranial nerve. It sounds just like what I have. The only thing is, I am not willing to have more surgery. I can't. I guess I will plead with my doctor for help, and pray. Does anyone else suffer from headaches like this? Also where the plate is, my skull is sunken in about 2 1/2 inches. That is strange to me because I am supposed to have the plate over the skull that they put back and screwed in. If anything it should be petruding, not caving in.
