My husband might have MS

My husbands father had MS and I'm a little leery about him getting MS as well. He's 33 years old and injured his neck a few years ago, before we got together. This past Sunday he went to the ER because of severe neck pain, given he's always had neck pain since his accident and just had to crack his neck and the pain was gone within minutes, anyway when we left the ER he found out his spine and some discs were deteriorating. They gave him some muscle relaxers and pain killers and told him to set up a follow up appointment with the family DR. He did and she's going to let him go on pain killers and muscle relaxers for a week and if he doesn't get better, schedule for him to have an MRI. Are these signs of MS? Please help if you can!!! Thank you.

Hi and welcome,

Your husband has a pre-existing trauma explanation for the neck pain he experiences, and he also has deterioration in some of the discs in his spine.

With the information you've provided, there just wouldn't be any reason to consider he could additionally have a neurological condition like MS because his father does.

To be honest it's much more common to be the only person in the family with MS, there can be multiple MSers in the family gene pool but it's not as common.

Hope that helps........JJ
