Back for now at least

Hi All to those I already know and those I have not yet met.

I'm finally settled in, for the most part in my new home in Maine. I am for the most part enjoying the cooler temperature here in the FAR north, it was around 60 degrees cooler here than my home in TN the other day (60 vs 110). So it looks like I'll be able to handle the summers better living up here during the summers. In TN I was house bound for around 5 months every summer do to heat intolerance. So even though it will kill me for a couple of months each year moving back and forth between ME and TN, it will be worth it.But to lessen the burden of the trips I'm making both homes fully stocked and furnished to minimize the amount of things I will need to take during each trip.

One good thing is that my Brother and his Daughter  have been helping me (actually they have been doing most of the work) in making changes to the ME home. So far we have replace the stairs into the Kitchen with a new porch and stairs, fixed a couple of leaks around the skylights in Kitchen and Bathroom, and have plans for a few more projects. Since all three of us have MS we are taking it easy on the work we do each day, and take naps quite often. But the work is progressing nicely and hopefully will be completed by the time I head back to TN in October.

I did run out of my GERD and Bladder medications during the move as I didn't want to end up not getting my refills due to the move. And when I started back on the medications they didn't seem to be working when I finally got them in the mail. But they seem to be slowly starting to work again. I guess it takes a while for them to start to work. But it was really rough for a while when I was out of them for about 2 weeks. Of course the stress of making the move probably didn't help with those problems either.

I'm still stressed out somewhat as I haven't had anyone living with me for over 20 years, so having them here feels kind of strange. For the most part when it comes to the work being done around here I basically do the supervising and design type of stuff, while they do the physical work (my balance and strength are shot). But I'm also the Chef for the group, coming up with the meals and cooking them (with some help from niece at times). This is the one thing I have missed the most since I started living alone around 94 as I love to cook for others.

Yes Maine is good for me.

I have been trying to take of weight for years and could never get below 201. Spent 2 weeks up here in Maine and took off 10 pounds. Went back to TN for a month and put it all plus some more back on. I've been up here since the 3rd and have taken off 8 pounds again.

Normally I'm a southern person, was born in Panama. Use to love the heat, the hotter the better. Now I have trouble if it gets over about 74.

  What instrument do you play?

I use to play the drums until my hands got too weak to hold on to the sticks. But then this spring a guy at the VA figured out a way for me to hold on to them, but just then I fell and hurt my left hand which is still messed up. So I still don't know if the idea will actually work or not.

Ahhhhhh two wonderful loves indeed. We used to own a 23 ft Hunter.... miss it. Secondly, I've always said, the gift of music is like no other.

To get away from it all, I sometimes put the headphones on and play on my instrument for hours. Helps to clear the mind ....

So nice to meet your acquaintance Sir.

There are a lot of wild life around and on my property. I have seen a moose in my pond a couple of times, but didn't have my camera here at the time. I few flocks of ducks shortly after I bought the place. Almost every day I see a groundhog between my  home and the pond munching on the grass, Very cute guy if I say so myself. And finally saw a couple deer the other day, was beginning to think they don't live this far north.

Yes I do sail, or at east I use to. Had to give that up when it became to difficult to handle my 25 foot sailboat around 2000. My user name is a combination of my 2 loves, sailing and writing songs.

Hi there Dennis,

I'm so glad to see you back and to hear what you've been up to. It must be tricky living in two locations and I'm not sure I could do that myself but I do understand the heat issues.

I had to chuckle at the picture that came to mind when you said 3 MSers are renovating. :D

Take Care,

Karry.

Welcome back Dennis.  When one of the 'regulars' on here don't post for awhile you do tend to think about them and hope they're ok.

Glad things seem to be working out in the new location and you're enjoying the opportunity to indulge your passion of cooking for others.  I know it will be very much appreciated by your brother and niece.

Best wishes
