Has anyone had this done? Does it hurt?

Oh, I looked back and saw the earlier dates at the beginning of your post, duh!  :o)

I'm glad it wasn't too awful, and hope the soreness and burning ease up quickly and that this procedure has done the trick.

Hi Kathy,
I have had the procedure done a couple of days ago, I don't feel to bad at all, just a tad sore when I urinate.  Yep my urgency is better, but I have had a few episodes of leaking urine but he said that will settle down as well, but I had that before the procedure, so what's new...lol.

It is meant to fix my burning, but I will need to wait a few days to know if that has worked as I have some soreness and burning from the procedure and I am not certain my burning is from urethral syndrome or intersistial cystisis or just neurological...
He said there was no way of telling, it was just a wait and see what happens, I go back to him in a couple of weeks.

Thanks, Cheers,
Udkas.

I've had several dilatations done; under anesthsia.  When my urologist tested my bladder capacity in his office, I had such awful spasms that he decided to do the dilatation under anesthesia.  I found that I needed an anti-nausea medication with the anesthesia.

I rarely had any discomfort after the procedure, and it did help increase my capacity so I didn't have as much trouble with urgency and frequency.

Best of luck!

Hi.  I had a flexible cystoscopy and urethral dialation under local anaesthetic (basically anaesthetic gel). It did not hurt but was a little uncomfortable - a bit like having a smear test. Unfortunately it made my urethral spasms much worse and most urologists that I have spoken to since said that they never find that the dialation is as effective under a local anaesthetic.  Good luck.

I had the dilatation done.  When I did it, they gave me IV meds that made the procedure much easier  It wasn't conscious sedation, (like during a colonoscopy) when they gave you something for pain and also a hypnotic so you dont remember it.  But it definelty was enough to take a huge edge off.

It's not that bad at all.

Hang in there and let us know how you come out.
Best wishes!

I am having a rigid cystoscopy thing done and the bladder dilitation thing where they gently stretch the urethra tube and bladder i think. I am having it done under general but I wondered about afterwards...

Are you talking about a cystoscopy?  If so, yes, this is an uncomfortable procedure.  If there is any way you can have it under some sort of sedation, that might be better.  It can be done without, but like I say, it is not comfortable.
