C-Spine MRI today didn't go well :(

Very discouraged! Unable to get a clear picture on my cervical MRI due to movement. I laid there perfectly still with minimal swallowing but get this I was having facial twitches on the left side, thumb and first finger twitches left hand and buttock twitches and lower leg twitches left side.  I also was having my old familiar sensation of current flowing through my body which feels like movement. throughout my body. They stopped the test and rescheduled it for Monday, I became upset and cried. I was in there over an hour with not a single clear picture. They showed them to me. Has this happened to anyone else? I'm afraid the next one will be just as difficult. I was fine through 2 MRI's of the brain.  Sorry I'm venting but this limbo land thing is getting old as well. By the way I just found that both of my cousins who have confirmed diagnos of MS never had a positive LP. They were confirmed by brain MRI. One is functional and the other is in a W/C in the Nursing home. They are 10 + years older than me and like myself had symptoms for years. Thanks for listening...

Nell, many of our board members were dxed with negative LP results.  My own neuro told me she wanted one.  She also ended with, "The results won't change anything.  You have MS.  Period".  So she only was using the results as one more thing (if postive..which it was) to add to her findings.

So, did you have another run?  If so, did it go better?  I sure hope so.

To Mary- My cousins are from Virginia. They were diagnosed in 1994 and 2000. they are both in their 60's now. To Sumanadevil- The imaging center associated with the local Hospital did not turn in the 1st MRI to Insurance. The images were that bad so it was listed as exam not able to be completed by patient! I understand the cousin vs first degree relative. I just wanted to point out that my cousins have MS and had negative LP results. Thanks for all the replies and support! Nell~~~

From my understanding, having a cousin doesn't up the odds of your having MS.  It is only first degree relatives (a parent or sibling) that ups the chance of your having MS.

My advice is canceling the appointment on Monday.  Get in touch with your doctor.  Yes there are medications available to help you relax.  I have even heard of having an  anesthesiologist  present.  It would be a waste of your insurance money and your own money at this point to try again without some help.

I'm sorry Nell.  That had to be very discouraging.  Too bad they couldn't have called the doc and got some medication orders to help control those movements.  If your body stays still when you are sleeping I'd be asking the doc to give you something to relax into sleep for Monday's test.  You would need someone to drive you home afterwards though.

It is so much harder to get good images of the cord than the brain.  Is your doc insisting on seeing cord lesions for a diagnosis?

Were your cousins diagnosed by doctors who are close to your location?  What was their diagnosis based on?

Sorry for all the questions.  I ask them as they come to mind and this situation begs for answers you don't seem to be gettting.

I'm sorry.  It sounds like you are in for the wrong type of long weekend.
