Accupuncture relief

Has anyone tried acupuncture for the relief of pain and symptoms?  Does it work for you?  I am considering giving it a try.  I assume it can't hurt.
Thanks, Terrie

Hi Em, thanks - yeah I'm doing ok. Compared to some people here I have nothing to complain about. Hope you're doing well too! Thanks for your congrats - I"m really pumped!!

Yeah, I don't know why I feel sick but it happened again on Thursday when I went to have it. I felt sooooo unwell when I got up and felt like I really needed to lie down. She concentrated on my lower back (due to extra pain there), legs and arms because of my spasms and tremors. She said that not only do the muscles feel tight and knotty, but that the skin itself felt super tight - weird.

Reflexology... that's just working your feet is it? I've had a friend do that when she was training to be a therapist and I loved the sensation on my feet but you don't feel anything else. Was she massaging your feet??

Man... I'm so getting my therapist to have a go at my feet next time hehe I saw the reflexology chart up on the wall so I'll see what she says. I'm going to start going every fortnight I think instead of every 3 weeks, coz I've been getting more and more spasms, tremors and pain in the past few weeks.

I spoke to her about my scholarship and she said go for it - she also said that I should take every opportunity while I can. I told her about the doc thinking I have possible MS and her reaction was quite interesting. She kinda went "ohhh, ****" hehe She knows at least 2 people who have it in our small community (6,000 people approx) and she told me a bit about what they do. She said that one of them actually uses chemo to treat her MS. Never heard of that before!

Anyway, take care.

Hi Mel, Hope you are ok.  Just read a bit of your other post about your stupid boss....ignorant springs to mind. Well done on getting the chance to go to Germany though...sounds fab and you clearly deserve it.

I'm writing to comment on the bit in the above post where you wrote about feeling fuzzy and a little sick afterward you've had a massage.  I do feel the same everytime I go and I wondered why this was.  The thing is it doesn't put me off because like you said, it sure makes we feel 'looser' where my muscles are concerned.

I actually went today to have my accupuncture but it didn't go as planned.  She felt my legs and feet where so 'knotted up' from all the spasms I keep getting that she said she just wanted to work on loosening my muscles up today as she felt I wouldn't get the most out of the accupuncture like that.  Instead it was almost like reflexology she did.  Quite funny though as I've never had this and she was a little puzzled as to why I couldn't feel anything when she was doing it....never had it done before so not even sure if you are supposed to..?  She is really good though and she knew exactly where and how my feet had been spasming, she described it perfectly from just feeling my feet...wierd.

Got another appointment next week....

Take care

Em x

I have been having massage therapy for years now. I started going when I was DX with CFS and subsequent Fibro pains. I have to say that I prefer deep tissue massage, or at least a strong massage. I know that sounds weird because it hurts like nothing else, but afterwards it kind of feels like a release. At the moment when I go I feel worse for a couple of hours. I have Postural Hypotension (probs with low blood pressure) so maybe it's due to that, but it does make me feel fuzzier and sicker. Hehe despite this I still love going - I have an appointment in 3 hours yay!

Hi,
I am in philippines so prices are cheaper here.  Don't know how much the chinese dr. I will see will cost.

But my friend (also accupuncture doctor) is not so cheap (but that's by local standards - he charges $20 - but contrast that against an average daily salary here of  <$10 - so only the 'wealthy' get to try such treatments).

I get treated for free from time to time from him (for free, or for a cup of coffee) and have found it very good for muscle strains (training related), and also it made a big difference for me in helping when I had reflux and chronic stomach probs (nearly gone now that I'm gluten free).

Will update you after.  Yes, there is a very big difference between accupuncturists in terms of how effective their treatment is....

I've had acupuncture done as I also have a lot of neck, shoulder and back problems. I had been going to a chiro and he suggested I try. Well to make a long story short I tried it for a month going every week and it actually made things worse for me. It seemed to make the pain more intense. So needless to say I stopped going. I'm not sure if that will be the same for any of you but that was my experience and thought I would share it with you. It could be my luck with accupuncturists is the same as my bad luck with neuros.lol

Good luck to you all and let me know if it works for any of you.

Hi Again, didn't know about the tongue thing? I've also had about 4 massage sessions....and yes it did feel good...lol.  These have really helped to relieve the tight muscles I had from continuing spasms and cramps.  What was wierd though was whenever she touched cetain parts of my back (spine), my legs would twitch or go numb...very strange.

Better make sure I don't eat any garlic before I go in case she does look in my mouth....!!

I never saw your question...sometimes when the post keep going questions get pushed down the line.   If that ever happens to you again, just "bump it up" by making a comment.  Yes, I am very curious about the results.  Please let me know.  I am also considering massage therapy, what do you think?  At least it should feel good, huh? Maybe everyone is off to work right now or sleeping.  Did you know that they will look at your tongue?  I thought that was kinda funny, but I'm sure they will explain why.
Enjoy, Terrie

Hi Terrie, hope you are ok?  I asked the same question yesterday (didn't a response about that bit though).  I'm going to give it a go, I have an appointment tomorrow.  My physio recommended it.  She said it wouldn't cure the problem but would ease the nerve problems and should reduce pain.  She does a lot of work with neuro patients, so I'm putting my trust in her.

I would be interested to hear what others think.  I'll let you know what happens after tomorrow.

Hope you get more answers than I did...lol.

Take care
