Citalopram side effects

Thanks for the info you gave me on Citalopram it seems I can’t take it. I’ve had the most horrible side effects. I already suffer with really bad acid reflux (diagnosed as IBS co they couldn’t find anything else). Well this drug gave me acid to die for – pains in the neck, back, stomach under my ribs; I thought I was having a heart attack!! The acid is so bad at the moment it is making me cough when it hits my throat and the pain – well – and its been 36 hours since I took a tablet.  For goodness sake I only took 10 mg and only managed that for 2 days!!!

I’ve doubled up on my Lanzaprazole for it but to no avail. Rang the GP she says don’t take anymore and that rules that class of drug out altogether. Take lots of antacids and it should be gone in a few days.

I thought that too but the GP seems to think that it is that - if it doesn't settle in a day or two then I will get back to her to see what it might be. But I certainly didn't have this before I took it and the symptoms started on day 1.

I do seem to be very sensitive to some drugs I've had problems in the past.

Sorry to hear you are having such trouble with this med.  I have a hiatus hernia and IBS and acid reflux for which I am on Prevacid and fortunately I have had no problem with this med.  I don't know that much about it but it seems that after 10mg you are having such severe side effects that possibly something else might be going on as well?  In my humble opinion, you should ensure that this is the cause and not something else honey...wouldn't hurt to investigate especially since you are having trouble 36 hours after taking 10mg.  I wish you luck honey and hope you feel better soon!
