Keep biting my lip - ouch!

I keep biting my lip on the right side - at a specific spot, right in front of the right canine.  I can't seem to help it - when I'm chewing, my lip keeps getting in the way and then it gets bitten.  Right now it's sore and the spot on the inside of my lip looks like I've broken the skin several times.

Any ideas?  This is driving me crazy.

I do it too!  I won't for a long time then a few days will come where I bite it several times.

Also, during my last relapse, I would wake myself up right when I chomped my tongue really hard, like my jaws just snapped shut.  It was so painful and I didn't really think too far beyond it until I was later diagnosed and learned that muscle spasms happen more at night/sleep time.  I have that on my watch list too.  It stopped happening thank goodness it was really disconcerting to wake up like that, plus it hurt like the dickens, it bled several times.

Ha. Lo' and behold, my googling brought me to an old medhelp post. I can see now how easy it is for people to inadvertently contribute to zombie posts (long dead).

Well, yes. Sitting here after dinner, nursing the inner lip that just won't heal - tough to do when you accidentally wind up gnawing on it 2-3 times a day. Interestingly, I certainly wouldn't say it is or has been in any way numb.

Currently filed under 'annoying thing that may or may not have anything to do with MS' aka 'one to watch'.

Oh eating. I notice I have to slow down and actually think about chewing sounds crazy. Also I have to chew on the other side.

I had a lime bar last night - spent much of its time on my lower lip, cooling off my sore spot.  It's only a problem when I'm eating - maybe I need to be eating something that doesn't require chewing?

I bite the inside of my cheek same side. My dentist said many of his MS patients do this. He made me a free mouth guard. It was a little hard to get used to now it is great. They have cheap versions at sport's stores. The dentist's ones can be expensive.

That's funny-- yesterday I had to stop chewing gum because I couldn't keep from inadverdently chomping on my right cheek.  I told myself it was because I was distracted but I've been chewing gum while doing many things all my life.  The inside of that cheek is raw. :(
