Happy Muggy Monday, May 20, 2013 ...Goings On

What's going on this week? Anything good? Anything you are looking forward to? Or, NOT looking forward to?
Any plans for Memorial Day Weekend? I have a wedding to go to the weekend, and it's muggy here on the east coast - hoping it clears up, doesn't make for good hair! haha Would love to have something that goes smooooth if even my duo! Doesn't seem I have the slightest chance of that though.

Other than that, hoping for a good week and then off for the holiday weekend.

What's up with you all?

Glad you made it through! A shame about the braces causing artefacts. But at least they recognised it was an issue and were able to account for that a bit without having to call you back for another appointment. But yes I think most of our minds would jump to scary places if they mentioned needing to do additional images and bringing in the radiologist!

And fantastic job of pulling yourself back from HULKSMASH!

Lulu and imessico.. Thx for welcome and info.
Sllowe... Thank you for for heads up.

And lulu u were right I only went in to my abdomen I guess... I might as well have been in there the whole way though bc that cage kept me from seeing below so I could not tell how far in I went.
I tell u I was not a person to be bothered by small places but wow.. I did not like being in there! I actually had imagined myself as hulk tearing off the head thing and getting of of the machine as fast as I could... Hahaha...
I stopped my imagination closed my eyes and breathed until I was fine... About 2-3 mins later it was all good. I was sleepy and dozed in. My imagination and all went well.

Halfway through the lady said she was going to have the radiologist come look at my scan as she may need to do extras... Ummmm ok I have a tumor my mind jumps to.. Lol.. Then she does a couple extras then brings me out for an injection of dye... She then explains that my braces are reflecting on my optic nerve causeing the pictures to not be as good as she hoped and I may have to go back to have another scan once they are removed. Great! ... Not a tumor! ;)
I am 33 years old with braces.. Bad enough now this. I am at the end anyway so it is not so bad... My dentist will take them off when I want them but he wants them perfect in a perfect world... And I do too.

Anyhow I wanted to update to say I made it though... Other then the surprise anxiety the first couple minutes it was all good!

Hello Sarah! You snuck by me on your post! Sorry to hear you'll sell, but I know you know what is best for you :) I hope there is some peace in your decision.

Spring has surely sprung here, and everything is opening up and billowing green pollen, the pines are so loaded they are exploding. MMMmmm blueberries - I can't wait until ours arrive. We picked them (ate tons of course) and sold them to the local fruit stands for $$. And, the little wild ones around the lake, well they were just for plain eating-while-walking. It was great fun all around always.

You have a great week too!

I'm weeding the summer house, slowly, it goes up for sale when we leave this fall; everyone has decided (me too in the end) that the trek northward is too much for me, so its bittersweet, but needed.  Big ongoing yard sale and keeping things go into storage until transport is arranged with child.

Otherwise, am fine, recovering from a flare when I got here but other than extreme lassitude, am doing well.  Spring is not here yet, the blueberries don't want to open their leaves and the rhubarb is trying to be brave.  Only the grass and winter grain is proding its head out.

Everyone have a good week; sounds industrious, I feel lazy after reading your posts!!

Cann - I've always been in full for brain and spine imaging. A couple tips I want to pass along is
1) expect loud noises, banging, etc. But, don't be alarmed, this is what the machine does as they go through varying sequencing to take good pictures
2) lay as still as possible, don't fight the noises, and keep your eyes closed, and don't think about being "inside" anything. Let your imagine take you to a calm place where you are laying peacefully
3) Make sure this is scheduled during a time in day where you are relaxed (i.e., don't schedule it right after morning coffee! I've found 2p to be a great time of day when I'm already pretty tired)
AND, think of this.....the more still you are, the better the pictures!

Lu - enjoy the quiet week, sounds like you got lucky lady!

Rena-girl - I must of missed why you are going into surgery. I wish you well love, stay positive my friend, and know I'm be praying it goes well, w/out and secondary problems or MSie probs afterward :( ((((((hugs))))

JB - hope PT doesn't beat you up too bad, but I know they can be tough :(  Wishing you strength and minimal soreness. We just loaded up our air conditioners too - it's muggy, and the pollen is off the hook. Its a- Sea of green.

Just think, it's only Tuesday!

Apologies, Rena. Composing my last post overlapped when you posted yours. Didn't mean to leave you out! So I'd like to add my well wishes for your surgery. It sounds like a trial indeed. I hope it all goes as smoothly as possible. I'll be thinking about you on the 29th!

@Cann1980
I'm with Lu. I've fallen asleep a few times in the MRI machine as well! But I've always been put fully in the tube. Interesting the different 'styles' places have of doing these things. Welcome to the forum!

@Lulu54

Have a great long weekend!

No Irish ancestry that I'm aware of. I always say I'm the only American in captivity who doesn't claim it! I've been here in Ireland since 2006 and lived in Europe since 2002. I never had any plans or daydreams about it, I'm just very good at winding up wherever the wind blows.

I wound up in Ireland after hitchiking along the west coast one summer. As I'm married now and know I'll be here for the foreseeable future, it's imperative to get citizenship. Being enfranchised means a lot to me and Ireland's home; the good, the bad, and the ugly. Late August is the earliest I qualify, so I'm in the phase of making sure all the legalities are in order!

Well, I am trying to prepare myself for my surgery on May 29th and I am not doing a very good job.
It is not going to be pleasant and I know so because the surgeon has warned me :(
So, I am trying to find soft foods to eat as I could be on liquids for a month or more.  Pretty boring but that is the least of my worries!

I am finally through with the usual MS "flare" I have every spring...although the doc says I am SPMS...don't make sense to me but I have learned to deal with it I guess.
I am seriously concerned what sort of wrench the surgery is gonna put on my "SPMS" considering every time I have  dental work done it sends things into a nasty tailspin.  Guess I will just wait and see.

So that's my plan for the week.  Hope everyone has a good week!

Hugs, Rena

the people who do medical work overseas always amaze me - the challenges vs the rewards of this type of work is an interesting mix.  Good luck with the meeting on Friday- do you have Irish ancestry?

welcome to the group here! I find the MRI almost relaxing - it forces me to hold very still for a long period of time and I often fall asleep.  Only your head -like to your shoulders will be in the tube.  Many people have problems with this feeling closed in - the worst part is probably because they put a cage-like device over your head to keep it still.  You'll do fine, but you can always ask your doctor to prescribe one or two valiums to take for relaxing.  Of course you then need aperson to drive you home. Good luck.

My week is pretty quiet until we hit the holiday weekend.

Just want to say hi! And thanks to all of you for such a great community!

I go for MRI on Wednesday morning... Won't hear finding until next week.
Still positive that things will turn out ok :)

How enclosed is this machine? Will I just have only my head in there? Or whole body? I am a tiny bit claustrophobic ... Perhaps... Lol.
Only having head/optic nerve MRI not spinal.

Cheers to u all! :)

Immisceo:  Undoubtedly that is great chat w/your clinic doctor :)  Good handfuls of us had the opportunity when our Dear Doc Quixotic was still active on the forum to hear about some of the work she did abroad - when she had good reason to elaborate of course. We were all ears. Good stuff. Wishing you the best tomorrow w/your vaccine, and Friday w/your advice clinic.

Dennis: Can you get something to rest at night if you end up sleep problems? Wishing you well w/your trip to the VA this go around :)  Aaaa housework, it's never done is it!

Anyone else care to share?

This will be my second busy week in a row.

Tuesday through Thursday I have my first even IVSM course. I suspect the hardest part of that will be lack of sleep. When ever I have any kind of morning appointment I have trouble sleeping as I don't trust myself to hear an alarm. So I keep waking up every couple of hours to check the time. SO if I end up with the insomnia like others I won't get any sleep.

On Thursday I also have an appointment for PTSD. That is late afternoon so I'll be at the VA all day.  This one will start out as a group session for what I was told about 5 minutes. The doctors call the patients out one by one for one on one talks. So this shouldn't be as bad on me as the session last week.

I guess the following week will also be fairly busy as I'll have two weeks of housework to do that I have missed last week and this week.

Fingers crossed for your unofficial start to summer!

I'm getting the pneumococcal vaccine tomorrow (I might be immunosuppressed if I'm on the active study drug, so it's just a bit of responsible housekeeping to get it). I actually go to a travel health clinic for all my vaccines. The head doctor there opened it after spending most of his career abroad. Ever want a quick bit of perspective? Chat to someone who's provided health care in Southern Sudan, the Congo, and Haiti. Amazing man.

Then on Friday I attend a free advice clinic run by the government for those of us pursuing Irish citizenship. I will be applying in August, so I want to make sure I don't have any surprises come up that might delay things. I'm hoping the whole thing goes as smoothly as possible!
