Had My Muscle Biopsy & Sick As A Dog

Hi, all,

Had my muscle biopsy under MAC anesthesia yesterday with 2 Lortabs afterwards and have been throwing up since then  (I have been sleeping a lot to avoid throwing up - it helps - have slept over 25 hours and am totally dehydrated - can't even drink sips water without losing it).  Can't write much because I feel the dry heaves coming on again while I'm waiting for my Phenergan suppositories to be delivered.  More later.

Dear Audrey_M, essdipity, Deb61, COBOB, and torikat32,

Thanks so much for your support!  I think it was the Lortabs!  One of the substances they can be synthesized from is codeine (which makes me throw up).  Never taking Lortabs again!!  There is no pain now anyway so I don't need any pain med.

I'm back to normal now - the phenergan suppositories really helped.  I had called my doctor's office about the vomiting to get them.

It sure feels great to be back to normal!!  Thanks for your much-appreciated and needed support!!  I love you all!!!

Vomiting after taking Hydrocodone?  Maybe the Lortabs got you barfing.  If you can't keep sips of water down, I'm not sure Phenergan suppositories will break cyclic vomiting.  If they don't work within an hour, I'd be heading to the ER.  An IV and a couple of liters of fluid are the best way to rehydrate a vomiting patient. Plus they can monitor your hydration with a UA.

Dehydration can be serious, do call your doctor about that.  I bet the pain medicine is the culprit, but it could be the pain.  I feel for you, and I hope you get to feeling better soon!  This sounds absolutely dreadful!   Gentle ((((((((hugs))))))))  and ((((((((well wishes)))))))).   Deb

Hi, WAF. That sounds truly awful. I'm so sorry. I agree you should call your doctor. Don't let the weekend go by like that.

Meanwhile, can you do ice chips? Just a tiny bit at a time? Dehydration really is a danger. I had a stomach bug recently and was worried about that, but I found I could drink very small amounts of water.

Get well soon!

So sorry to hear you're feeling so bad.

Have you called your doctor? It may be that you are having a reaction to meds and you don't want to risk dehydration.

Hope you feel better soon and that the biopsy results give you some peace of mind, whatever they might be.
