I bought the newest version 11 from Amazon. Being a writer, it does not respond to wierd verb use, so it does take some text tweaking. My fingers had a love affair with the keyboard, and I will miss that, but Dragon allows my mind to connect with the computer in a way my fingers could not keep up with. Sometimes my fingers slowing me down is a good thing, but my "s" finger does not go where I want it to go much of the time. I have also slowed down in my typing abilities, so my fingers seem disjointed in terms of where my mind wants them to go. Dragon is a good resource especially on bad days. Setup took very little time, and the voice recognition software that came with my computer does not even compare.
we probably have the original version, DD is serverely dyslexic and we thought it would be great but it didn't turn out to be simple enough for her to use. Personally it wouldn't be helpful for me because my speech is wonkie, I never know if i'm going to slur or stutter or just loose the word i'm expecting to flow out of my mouth. Typing is still a slow process because of all those things as well as other issues making writing problematic but what I type is more the me I know, talking is not. At least i can take my time when I type, not as much preasure whilst i'm working it out, no eyes are on me.lol
If i was still working i think my son's audio pen (Live Scribe) would help keep me on track. It works like a normal pen, and what ever you write automatically gets down loaded into a word document. It also picks up all the audio in the room, so during a meeting it records not only what you write but also what you hear, the audio can be replayed as many times as you like. The audio can also be turned into a word document but it gets a bit confusing if there are more than one person talking, good for lectures or listening to the boss then following out those instructions.
I'm glad its helpful for you, when it does work I always hear good things.
Cheers..........JJ
Ive had it at the office for ages but have been too impatient to train it with my voice, it was a pain in the neck to set up. I actually just had a demo of this software at a rehab facility last week and they let me know that v11 is a huge improvement over the older versions. I have v8 at work and it is brutal. Can you tell me which version you're using and how much time it took to set up initially?
I have never used Dragon but have heard good things about it. I just want to add that most computers today come with installed speech recognition programs. I was just about to buy Dragon when my son told me and helped me find it on my computer. My husband then was curious and found a program on his. Might save a dime by checking....
There are several people here who use Dragon, including Quix. I'm so glad to hear it was easy to setup and you are finding it useful. I put it on my DH's iphone as an app, but he has not used it yet. happy writing, Lulu
