EMG experiences

I'm having an EMG tomorrow.  I've been told what's going to happen, but I'm still a little nervous about it.  I'm hoping some of you that have had one can describe their experience with it.

Thanks,
Laura

Laura,

I would love to tell you it was a breeze, but I hate to lie.  It was incredibly painful.  However, under the circumstances, I would do it again tomorrow.

The best thing I can tell you is to control your breathing, literally count.  When you hold your breath, which is the normal thing to do, you tense up which makes the pain worse.  Regulating your breathing, and concentrating on that will help.  The nurse that I had was hillarious though.  She told me I could curse as much as i needed to, that she would be.  lol

Thanks T.  Not the answer I wanted to hear, but I wanted the truth. I have a pretty high tolerance for pain, so hopefully that will help!

Thanks Again,
Laura

It appears, in googling, that they use "patches" now?  when I had mine done, they used needles.  I found the best way was not to look, I only remember a couple painful spots and I did use some "kind" swear words similar to "do that again and I leave" ha ha

all it proved was that I had carpel tunnel (which I did NOT) have, a neuro surgeon chomping at the bits to get at me, cancelled, and a primary who thought I was nuts.  That was 12 years ago.  I still do not have CT...go figure

you'll do fine but ask for a copy of his results and question or ask for validation of anything you don't understand.

I have had an EMG done twice. The first time I didn't feel anything while the second time it did hurt but only at times. I have no idea of why the difference between the two times.

Thanks for the comments.  I'm having done on my left leg by my knee.  I'm having really bad problems with my knee, buzzing, popping, and shifting.  I really have no muscle tone in my left leg.  They're trying to see if there's a compressed nerve somewhere.
