I am 39 and have MS. I am not currently on a DMD but I do take Duloxetine and Zaniflex. Not sure if they can make you Bruise but I have three bruises currently and have no idea how I got them. One on my right hand, One on my left upper arm and a pretty large one on my right thigh.
Your words are my words...It's like I said them. I just noticed a huge bruise on my left calf about the size of a tennis ball and a hard knot in the middle with no idea what I could have done. Also I take B12 shots and my last one left a pretty good sized bruised. I was just diagnosed with MS and start Avonex Sunday so I haven't had any medicines yet for it and no dietary changes.
Hi Marianne,
I bruise really, really easily too. My family say I'm like a peach! I hadn't really considered whether bruising & ms might be linked but it wouldn't surprise me since so many weird things seem to happen these days! I'm not on any dmd and I haven't changed my diet.
I'm on copaxone. I was off of it for a bit because I had a bunch stolen and was just recently able to get a refill since my insurance changed my specialty pharmacy. (What a mess!). However, I've been on it for over a year and not had any problems until recently.
What kind of freaks me out, is when I get up to walk my legs start to go numb and when I walk quickly or run, my right leg goes completely numb and gets that achy feeling that you can't control. Also, headaches are back to getting bad again, but they're unusual feeling. I've also been more fatigued and eyes have been jumpy and acting strange from time to time.
But my right leg is the only spot I've had this bruising and that's the leg that goes numb. I called my neuro and they're putting me back on neurontin and told me to call my primary about the bruising. They're eager to put me on meds and not take a look at the whole picture. I was on neurontin before and it helped with the numbness I was having then.
The bruising is real nasty looking. Like I slammed my leg in a door or something. They're in strange spots on the back of my leg and I can't remember getting hurt bad enough to get a bruise like that. Honestly, I can't remember getting hurt at all. (Also giving the fact that my memory is crap anymore!)
Boy, I feel like I'm in a heap of mess right now. Nothing feels right about me! :/
I too bruise much easier, and sometimes they are really ugly, and don't hurt, and I can't remember when I would of hit myself.... so, I don't worry to much, I am on Copaxone, and I don't know if that contributes to it.....
Hope you get some answers,
Candy
Hi there,
What DMD are you on? I bruise easier on Rebif then when I've been off of it..... Just a thought that DMDs can change blood counts...

Have you decreased your vitamin K intake (green leafy vegetables, etc) ?
This can cause your blood to be too thin, as does medication to prevent clotting.
Or have you checked with your DMD manufacturer to see if this is a side effect? I forget which one you are on.
