Electric current sensation

This is hard to explain, but here goes. Randomly during the day, triggered by some kind of movement I will get a sort of electric current sensation always starting in my lower back and spreading to my arms and legs. Never above the neck. Sometimes only the left side of my body, sometimes only the right side.  I could also describe it as the feeling you get when you cut circulation off your arm from sleeping on it wrong, and when you wake up and move it so that the blood flows freely again, that kind of numb tingling you get.  It kinda feels like that throughout my whole body. It usually last about 30 seconds and can happen several times a day.  Anybody with any ideas? this has been going on for years, and has become more frequent.

That was happening when my MS was diagnosed.  There are lots of other problems that have developed, but that particular one has been gone for about a year.  Doctors never did figure it out.  In fact, mentioning it confused the issue, took years longer and other symptoms to develop before anyone thought to look for MS because of bringing that up.

yes i did realize it is in the ms community, I posted in in a few places hoping somebody may have heard of this.  I have seen several doctors and stumped each one thus far.  What you said about the sensation traveling 'up' being weird, I have heard that from doctors as well.  I have had x-rays and mri's looking for some kind of structural damage, but nothing has turned up. Thanks for your input.  I have a appointment scheduled at the mayo clinic next month, and i'm sort of looking for ideas to bring up while i'm there.

Hi watz and welcome,

I'm not sure if you realise but your question landed in the MS community........IF you were saying when you bent your head forward, you felt an electrical shock sensation travelling from your neck 'down' your body, I would be suggesting it could be the Lhermitte's phenomenon. BUT what you experience is coming from the movement from your lower back and then the sensation travels 'up', which from my understanding is very odd, if it's causing issues 'above' its starting point.

The going up part has thrown me somewhat, it might be a structural spinal issue, for example a disc issue that is degenerating with age but that's a guess, i suggest you see your dr so you have a better idea of what your dealing with......

Cheers............JJ

Something for nerve pain like Gabenpentin, Trileptal, or Lyrica would help.
