That's not Reynaud's, is it? It's hard not to play disease roulette.

gosh u need maybe 2 c a vein specialist- cant remember the name 4 them.
thats scarey!! hope u fine tick
I dont actually have varicose veins, not a one, no its red to purple to blue patchy coloured feet, toes can do a really good impersonation of dark plums whilst the foot is quite red. Left knee went purple with purple-redish dots all over the leg upto my crutch, some times the full left leg is the wrong colour, slightly purply red. Then my right knee went purple, so far its stopped at the knee in my right leg. They feel icey cold to touch but i cant actually feel them getting cold or even changing colours, the only time i can feel them is if i cross my legs then i get the usual pins and needles like everyone does.
My hands are different, they dont go blue but they are white with purply red digits down to the second knuckles but not evenly if that makes any sense. My hands dont cause me any issues apart from things i dont think are related, eg tremors, clumsy and in winter i get chilblains and they are really sensitive, i drop things because my wrist pop out a lot.
If i'm verticle for any length of time they start to get a darker shade, i dont feel it happening persay but the longer i'm upright and i start to get weaker and more fatigued. Sitting and i get the same thing, i can not hang my legs down anymore, i cant, i'm actually typing with my legs up on the back of the couch. If i forget and try and sit like a normal person, i cant get up off the chair and my legs are dead, they dont work. Plumb toes and purple feet that i cant feel at all, i fall a lot, stumble around until the blood starts pumping again.
I have mentioned my feet to every dr i've seen so far, even the nurses and no one seems to do anything more than make a note or say "your got a bad case of circulation" its my mum whos going troppo over them. I just want it to go away so i can get around and do my Christmas shopping, at this stage i'm just so over it and i havent even started.
Cheers.......JJ
JJ,
are you saying the discoloration in your foot is purple and that has spread up your leg? If that is the case you really need to be looked at by a doc to determine that it is nothing serious. Restoring circulation to a damaged leg is no easy task and can be dangerous if left unchecked.
If you're just talking about those ugly veins that look like roadmaps, I have those too and are considered cosmetic problems. Varicose veins fall in another category completely.
my best,
Lu
Ahhh, i'll have to start calling my self Dr Quack No Good, i got my license at the RTA (road traffic authority) so i'm good to go, i'll open my clinic with Dr thinks your nuts. hahaha!
It probably is normal though i have to wonder if its not connected to all the other circulation issues i'm having at the moment, ropie veins popping up all over, purple feet now travelled up my left leg. I get days where i hear the whooshing sounds of my blood pumping through to my head, dizzy spells, its probably just the circulation issues showing up some where new, no biggy but weirdly fansinating.
Cheers.....JJ
Pressing on the external jugular vein and then watching it fill is one of the tests we were taught to do. That is the best place in the body to watch a vein fill. You are half way to getting your medical license. I suspect that what you are seeing is a normal phenomenon. It is more visible in some people than others.

All in the name of immense curiosity, i played around abit (test-tube dumby) just to see if it was the way i was holding my head or something. I can say after numerous experiments (lol id be the scientist that self tested the plague) it doesnt matter what position my head is at.
It does get a little weirder (yes i'm doing the twilight zone music) If i touch my neck just above my collar bone, in that dint i can feel my vein like its a peice of rope just under the skin. I dont even have to put any preasure on it to feel it and that very gentle touch is even enough to get those viens to pop up and really stand out.
Now i must say its very unattractive, but hey who said human experimentation was pretty ROFL!
Cheers.......JJ
Read the post above while playing the theme to The Twilight Zone.
Honestly, I have no idea, except that there are several places in the body where a movement or position will impede the drainage of a vein and then you can see it drain while you switch positions. It is that kind of thing you are taught when learning to do the physcial exam.
