MS or unrelated?

Hey everyone! Quick question for you. For the past week or so I've had some new symptoms happening and they seem to be getting worse: shortness of breath, burning lungs, sore throat and extreme (and I do mean extreme) fatigue- I've been sleeping up to 18 hours a day, as well as getting dizzy. I've also got some achy-like pain in my right foot and calf.

I'm sure the leg and foot are MS related as I've had this before (although not this bad), but I'm wondering if the other stuff going on is MS related or if it could be something else.. chest infection, etc. I struggle with determining if every little thing I experience is from the MS or completely unrelated. I never know whether to see my Neuro or a GP. I don't want to be "that" patient who is always running to the Dr. In fact, I hate going to the Dr., but at this point, I am getting dizzy just walking from one room to the other.

I guess my question is, how do you all determine when to go to the Dr., and which Dr. to go to?

Thanks a ton!

Hi there,

You said your experiencing "shortness of breath, burning lungs, sore throat and extreme (and I do mean extreme) fatigue" .....it sounds to me like you've probably picked up a cold or virus, because those symptoms are not typically associated with neurological conditions like MS. If you running even a slight temperature though, it would potentially cause you to additional experience the return or worsening of your MS issues (pseudo relapse) which could explain why your fatigue is extreme, sleeping a lot etc.

Like Alex, I too recommend you see your GP...

Hope that helps......JJ

I would go to the GP. Heart or and infection in the chest could be there. It may turn out to be nothing but it may be something you need to treat. Everything is not MS. I had my cancer symptoms for 2-4 years before being diagnosed because several doctors made the mistake of thinking it was just MS. After I was diagnosed they all said it was so clearly ovarian cancer. I am not into doctors and I did not push them hard enough. They even said they thought I was a hypochondriac. Now they know I am stoic. I can have my arm falling off and say okay it is just a scratch nothing to bother about. I call a doctor now and they see me right away. I even have my GPs cell. I have never used it but I have it.

I would start with the GP. Make sure you leave with some answer. I do not know is an answer but have a plan. This has been going on for awhile.

Alex
