Heat - Cold, I can't win

Hi All,

I hope yo are all well. I was wondering if any of you other long time MS'ers out ther have issues with "cold" weather....while the heat did a number on me this summer and taught me some lessons about my MS, the weather is cooling a bit here and I noticed I am comfortable but boy really cold..

my hubby looks at me and says..I am not turning the heat on for you yet...LOL..I am all bundled up with sweats and all..

I love the heat...but the slightest cooling makes me feel like I live in an igloo with penguins or something. Can MS effect you in both ways?

JibJen...

Well,

how about that...LOL after reading all of your responses, once again, I do not feel like I am "losing it" hahaha.

It is so funny how this can mess with you..I too feel like my internal  thermostat is broken, .. I too am freezing now..or at least I feel like it..my husband says are you kidding? it is nice in here (the house)..I tell him..probably hun but you know you can not win with me..he says I know..but I am still not turning on the heat for you yet...LOL

Have a great day! (I have begun to pull out my flannel PJ's and extra blankets early)

Count me in too, even though I am not diagnosed with anything.

Last night I had on a quartz heater, wearing a sweater and fleece, plus drinking hot tea to keep warm.

When this first started, I thought it was part of menopause??? I never had hot flashes, so I thought I was just different. Special, if you know what I mean.

This is one symptom/complaint of mine that is fairly predictable. It is usually at its worst from about 4 pm until 9 pm and then I start to warm up and can shed at least one layer.

Right there with you -  The humidity did a number on me more so than the heat but I never ever used to get cold and now It is only in the high 50's low 60's at night and I am freezing!  Last night I could not get warm at all.  My Dr thinks I may have Raynauds as well since my fingers and toes go white when they get cold but already for this to be happening it is only September.  I cannot regulate my temperature either.  I am sitting at my desk right now with my space heater on!

Hi
I have this problem, more with the cold than the heat.  In summer with. AC on, I am wearing sweats and trying to get warm.  Even now, with no AC, I cannot walk across tiled or hardwood floors, it's very painful to my feet, but especially my legs.  I am really not looking forward to this winter, which they expect to be a really cold one in NE.  I saw all the posts about hea, an really thought i was alone in this adversion to cold.  it's sad but nice to know I'm not alone.

Hey babe,

Yes it can, and its heat and cold for me too, my thermostat is brocken but i can't find the warrentee so i'm stuck with it lol Its another of the oddities, in a long line of odd lol cold for me is just as big a problem as heat but it flattens me in totally different ways.

My hands and feet go ice cold but i cant actually feel how icy they are until i touch something long enough to register the difference, everyone else feels it straight away lol oops sorry my bad :D

My stupid body has 'always' had an over reactive response to cold, I already get chillblains (autoimmune), that also twists and knobbles my fingers and toes every winter but the cold also affects other none exposed bony parts of my body, hips, wrists, knees, elbows, anckles. I've had it explained but i still dont get why my bones are actually affected, apparently just another over reactive immune response, ta very much but seriously ouch!

My tremor, spasms and jerks are more prominant when i get cold too, eg if i swim in cold water. My body reacts like i've got hyperthermia, the last wakeboarding outing for the season earlier this year, was way beyond painful, definitely a shoot me now experience.

So yeah, count me in!

Cheers..........JJ

I have this problem also. I sit in summer with ac on fan blowing with an iced drink and at same time keep a hot ricebag on me. Winter I am hot/cold and can't get comfortable at all. For me I think winters actually worse as my thermastat just can't regulate it seems. My neuro tells me my internal thermastat is broken. I drive my husband crazy with this.

I am not a long timer but I have trouble regulating my body temperature. I am too hot at 70* (sweating bullets outside) and too cold at 68*.

During one of my flares Jibby, I was wearing heavy winter gear during 60 degree weather. Not sure what was wrong with me but I just couldn't adjust.

Hey guys,

So I saw this and wondered if this is what I have to look forward to. I was diagnosed with MS this summer. The heat was not good to me at all. I was actually looking forward to the colder weather. To hear that the cold could mess with me kind of bums me out.

Maybe I'll get my beanie out and some warm coffee or tea and kick it with some penguins and we'll see how I fare...... ;)

You guys take care,

Tom

Hi I have problems with both and found out this summer what overheating does to my body. The cold on the other hand is just as bad or maybe even worse I have numb feet and hands so they always feel cold to me but add cold weather and they feel like they are frozen. I also seem to have alot more pain because of the cold. I use to have my house like 75degrees but I get too warm and over heated I used to wear flannel pjs and long sweaters but not anymore too warm but then I get cold put on a sweater and then get to warm cant seem to find a perfect temp for me yet. I love penguins but can live without the igloo
