Interesting reading

For those of us in limbo land looking for a dx, I found the following article extremly interesting.  http://www.ivanhoe.com/channels/p_printStory.cfm?storyid=20614

Also, another article showing how hard it is to dx (it was a long one)  talked about the NIH Undiagnosed Diseases Program.  It stated,   "Among the two dozen patients who have been through the program so far, there have been just two diagnoses, when patients admitted for neurological symptoms were found to have rare forms of multiple sclerosis."   I didn't realize there were rare forms of MS.  Does anyone know what is considered rare forms?  The article can be found at

I wasn't worried about the rare form, just curious because I had never heard of it.   I found it very interesting that a team of NIH doctors have the individual for a week and only 2 people were actually dx'd!  It's no wonder we are all doing the limbo for so long!!

As part of health care reform, diagnostics need to be addressed.  With so much new technology, there should be an alogrithm of some sort that docs can use to find diagnosis'.  There are now over 7000 "zebras" that doctors are trying to find a horse name for!! lol

Be thankful you have no experience or knowledge with the rare form of MS - that one is almost always fatal and can progress from dx to the final stages very rapidly.

It is EXTREMELY rare so please don't worry too much about it.

My dad's cousin was dx'd with a "rare form" of MS, but I don't know anything more than that.

I really liked the first one, but didn't make it all the way through the second.  Thanks for the links!
