Old? Not me! I don't plan on getting old until 1 hour before I die. LOL
Dennis
Dennis,
All mine started when all the MS started. I think it is due to our bodies not regulating heat the way it is suppose to.
But hey for me I think part of it is just due to getting old lol. Age really does play a huge part in the way we feel, we never realize it until we are getting older ;)
Paula
No feet under the blanket here either. :)
This discussion has gotten my curiosity up.
I wonder if our normal body temp has something to do with needing a cool bedroom, tolerance of hot food or drinks, and the like.
I'm not sure if my normal body temp has always been low, but over the last few years I found that it is normally around 86.4. I do know that this means an actual fever for me is at a lower temp than most people. So do this also hold true for temperatures that we feel.
Dennis
Yup we understand...I do eat hot food I just have plenty of cold liquids to drink while I am eating. The hot drinks are what I miss. I never asked about it before now because I was just going with it but then curiosity got the best of me and I had to see if others were effected the same as me.
It is always nice knowing that others understand :)
Paula
I am so glad to hear that I'm not alone in this boat. I've kind of been laughing because I don't drink hot coffee or tea anymore and I'm always the last one done with my meal because I wait for it to cool off too! I just recently cut my hair short and spiky because the hair dryer on high hurt my hands. It's so nice to know other people understand!
I deffinately will! This hand thing just started for me. And I will be seeing my neuro every month for a while because he tried to give me something for my fatigue and insurance denied it so now he prescribed me adderall so I have to go once a month to get a script from him since it is a controlled substance.
I will jot it down in my book of what to ask when I see him :) I get that way at night too...not all the time but I am either too hot or too cold. I have learned to always sleep with my feet out of the blanket to help keep my temp regulated. I keep the temp in my room very cool too.
What a life we live lol
Paula
Hmmmm I never even thought of asking my Neuro about this. I just figure it is yet another MS thing I have to deal with.
Just like it can be 75 degrees and I'll get chills. No fever or any other sign of being sick, no drafts, or any other reason for the chills. It will last for several hours at a time and then stop just as suddenly as it started.
I also can go to the other extreme at times as well. It will be 55 outside and I can out and actually be feeling hot. Again with no reason for this. I seem to experience this more at night as I keep my bedroom at 60 when I am sleeping. If I don't keep my bedroom that cold I tend to get a lot of muscle cramps during the night. Anyway many a night I have laid in my bed with no covers at all and sweltered even with the room at 60.
Let me know what your Neuro says about this. I don't see my Neuro for another 6 months.
Dennis
Dennis,
Its nice to know this is happening to someone else too. I am using even cooler water today to wash dishes. I have a problem with dropping them sometimes myself ;)
I am going to let it go for now but if it continues I will mention it to my neuro next month when I see him.
Thank you,
Paula
I also get the too hot water on the hands even though the water isn't hot. I never know when that is going to happen and is one of the reasons I started using those dish washing gloves.
They also help me to hold onto dishes due to the texture of the gloves. I was always dropping wet dishes because my hands were not gripping them tight enough.
Maybe this will be intermittent with you as well.
Dennis
I'm glad that you said you don't eat hot food either. Make me feel not so weird. :)
I'm also a little weird in the seat department..Just not as much as you. The only part of my body that sweats is the middle of my chest.
Dennis
I have learned to let things cool off before drinking them. It is just the juice of foods that bother me. I drink lots of ice water and soda when I eat so I think that helps with the hot food.
I don't blow dry my hair unless I use the cool setting. I use to love hot showers now they are cool showers. This just stinks sometimes.
Today was weird to. I went to wash dishes and the water wasn't hot but it was hurting the palms of my hands...guess it is something new for me! And life goes on :)
Paula
Paula, it sounds like you are just one of the lucky ones with the sensitivity to heat. I let my tea cool a bit in the morning and rarely eat hot food.
I have problems with blow drying my hair - it takes forever to cool down. I figure I am strange that I rarely break a sweat, no matter how hot I get. I just get very red in the face, but don't perspire. I'm thinking that might be an MS thing, but am not really sure.
Iced mochas are pretty good, right?
Like you I like hot drinks, but can't handle them. So I have learned to let them cool for a while before I drink them. They are pretty much just warm by the time I drink them.
I also find I have the same problem with hot ( not spicy ) food and also let them cool before eating. Maybe that is why I eat spicy food more these day. At least I get the illusion of hot food. :)
Dennis
Dennis,
Thanks, I understand that it heats me up from the inside out. There are so many that drink hot coffee daily and don't have a problem so I was wondering if there is a reason this happens to me but I guess it is what it is and I shouldn't question it.
Paula
When you drink something hot it raises you core temperature. It is just like being in a hot shower or outside on a hot day. Well actually no quite exactly. Hot drinks will effect your core temperature quicker since it is warming you from the inside out.
maybe you could try iced hot chocolate? :)
