Is this MS or just a quirk

Just flew to Pa and back, not having flown since 2007 (boy the TSA changes) and experienced extreme ear pain upon descent and landing and for several hours afterwards.  Tried peppermints, gum, swallowing, you name it……….

Could it be one of those quirky little symptoms that come and go on those occasions (not looking forward to that again…..knock me out til we land)

My leg is finally back to normal size after a week of double ace bandages, when I fell on my knee, caused an extreme contusion and blood thinners didn't help but is looking better except for bruises.  At least I didn't break or fracture anything, guess my yard is softer than I thought.

Airports were wonderful with carts and wheel chairs, etc.  Amazing.

Diesel stayed home, she has not been airplane trained yet and I had my hands full with CPAP gear and backpack and they checked my suitcase (gleefully looking at $$ signs) and my walker was checked free all the way thru and bagged in plastic!

Hope everyone has a good week, I just got in last night so haven't had a chance to read posts yet.  Lemtrada is looking like fall for me, they called while I was in flight and are sending paperwork to fill out.

Sarah

I go thursday for labs, NP visit and Tysabri hopefully.  I may call Biogen and ask about the fever association.  If they hick me off Tysabri this week, I am done with it.  I also see my cardio this month and pacemaker check.  At least I can say between the Adderall and the sleeping pill and CPAP, I am getting rest!

I'll keep you all posted, but yes it is still bothering me, not the pain , but the weird noises, I'll mention TN to the NP.

what you are describing reminds me of my brother in law he had estation tubes put in his ears years back and this causes him to have bad pain when he flies, as to being ms, dont think so but you never know.. i know with me my ms hit my ears as to i lost partial hearing for a few weeks in one ear.. felt like i was hearing thru a tunnel if someone said something to me like the casher at a store checking out..odd

He's just wonderful - 25.5" and cute as a button. Still underweight. He's starting to 'talk' now, and it's the most adorable thing.

Thanks guys, I do need to see the doc, I still get weird noises when I swallow and that may be the fever source, who knows.

Tysabri isn't working, for sure, and Lemtrada is the only other thing my insurance will pay for.  So at my age, and my increase of falling (either the cardio puts me on a motor cart or I go off blood thinners), then I'm ready for Lemtrada.

Sarah, you don't say if this is still a problem.  I would ted to agree with ess that you experienced the typical air cabin pressure problem. If it continues be sure to go to your GP and have your ears checked.  I was in urgent care two weeks ago for similar symptoms and it was a middle ear infection.  Not MS.

I'm sorry to hear tysabri isn't cutting it for you anymore. I know you'll do the full research on Lemtrda/campath before you say yes to this next step.

This problem sounds a lot like common pressure issues due to air flights. I hope it's gone now. If not, see a primary because it could be an infection.

Give Diesel some scritches for me.

thanks guys, never thought of that.  My infusion center is trying to get me a primary doctor.  They postponed my Tysabri yesterday because I had a 99.3 fever and someone I only know briefly in passing, has liver disease stemming from the Tysabri, so yeah, I want off of it.  It doesn't appear to be working as well this year.

You are going to love your trip, Alex, I wish you the best on it.

I'd wondered about TN too.

Interesting about the Lidocaine gel Jen.  I'll have to ask my GP about that one as I suffer whenever my body temp rises the slightest bit.

On a side note, how's that beautiful baby treating you?

I had a really bad bout of ear pain last year - I thought it was an earache. After some pulling on my ear, I discovered that what I had was basically trigeminal neuralgia - the pain was in the area in front of my ear and the bit right over the ear canal.

I contacted my neuro and she prescribed some lidocaine gel. Whenever the pain flared up, I would rub some gel on it. Worked great! It finally went away...

I have never heard of the ear thing. I would think it would be more about cabin pressure and may be some fluid already in your eustasion tubes.

I would like to hear about Lemtrada and how it ends up working for you. I bet you missed Diesel. It is going to be real weird when I go to Europe for three weeks with out my dogs. Luckily we have a live in pet sitter.
