Appt was a success!

So I've been bouncing around on the forum with many questions. I had my first appt with my Neurologist today and he was great. He set me up for a spinal tap on Monday and MRIs are being scheduled as well. I'm thankful that he's taking me seriously and getting right to the point. So just praying for answers one way or another.

For those who read responded to my last post. My aunt by the way still insists the doctor told her she had lesions on her elbows...I don't know what to think about that.

I'm very nervouse about the spinal tap, he said he will give me a shot of adavain to calm my nerves first..it still sounds very scary to me, I'm glad I only have 5 days to think about it...

Thank God for the blessings that he is giving me..I know he's in control

My LP was a breeze. He numbed me up before hand and I really didn't feel a thing after that. I had no ill effects afterwards either. You'll do fine :-)

Melo, good luck tomorrow and Monday! I had MRI and ct on Monday, they came back normal, seen my neuro today. He thinks its "spinal cord inflammation" so he ordered a MRI of neck/spine. Still waiting to hear from the hospital to schedule it.  I'm happy you got a doc to listen and just start the testing. I don't have a follow up for 4 wks. I'm guessing if this next MRI comes back clean then LP will be next on the list. But I'm sure that's only if I am still having all these stupid symptoms...so I really hope you can get a straight answer soon!

Thanks Shell,
My MRI is not schedule for tomorrow and then tap is Monday...I begged my doctor to just do the testing and get it all over with so I guess he listened. I basically told him I'd follow his plan but I wanted the quickest answers possible.
I really appreciate the tips for the LP, no one had mentioned to drink water and I'm sure that will help. I'm very nervious but he did call me in a nerve pill to take that morning.
I hope to have answers soon and I'll be back on the forum when I do.

Melo,

Glad for the fwd progress. Though I am surprised to hear of the tap preceeding the imaging. Not as common that I'm aware.

In prep for the LP - drink lost of water the days prior, of, and after. Plan on doing nothing for day of, and day of, and following the tap.

CSF leaks can, and do happen, and the best way to avoid them is to stay away from stairs, lifting or carrying items. And, lay around as long as you can.
If you have family that counts on you for most things, give them instructions that you'll NOT be up and about, you'll be sitting or laying around, doing nothing.

Wishing you well w/your future testing :)

Typical tests for MS include a spinal tap, MRIs, and blood tests.  (Blood tests are to eliminate other causes besides MS.)

Lesion is simply a way to describe a injury.  Your aunt probably did have lesions on her elbows, but it wasn't from MS.

did you have MRI's yet?
I have a variety of sypmtoms including Pain, Fatigue, some numbness and tingling, facial pains, eye pain, skin pain where it hurts to wear clothing. I'm extremely forgetful and have trouble processing info sometimes.

How about you? what other tests have they done to look for MS?
