MS with negative MRI's and LP?

I have had symptoms of MS for over 10 years now. They include tingling, numbness, balance and coordination problems, blurry/worsening vision, memory & concentration problems, severe fatigue, severe muscle cramps, sciatica, overactive bladder & leakage, dizziness/vertigo, & muscle spasms. All of my MRI's have been negative along with my LP. The only thing that was positive was my ANA and the LP showed "rare mononuclear monocytes". Rheumatologist ruled out lupus & other autoimmune disorders. Neurologist didn't diagnosis MS, but wants to do yearly MRI's because of my clinical presentation. Could you have MS even though MRI's and LP is negative? Also, on a side note, my mother & great aunt both have MS.

Hi, it looks like you're new, here.  Welcome.

Have you checked out our Health Pages (yellow icon, upper right)?  There are a couple of interesting entries that deal with negative LP and negative MRIs.

Your neuro sounds like s/he cares, and if you have any new symptoms crop up, definitely tell her/him.  You may wind up getting a follow up MRI sooner.

Cheers,
Lisa

I had an MRI and didn't have MS.  I had a pinched nerve in my neck. Of course, by the time this first test was run, I was in a wheelchair.  The MRI was taken on a 1.5t MRI.  Strange but four years later taken on a 3tMRI, I had MS.  Do you know which was used to dx you?
