Lhermitte's sign and numbness / tingeling in both hands

Hi,
back in March I had an accident that resulted in a concussion and minor bleeding between the brain and the scull. The recovery after the accident went fine for the first two to three weeks until I started noticing a electrical sensation in my lower body and upper legs. I went in for a brain and c-spine MRi with and without contrast that did not show anything unusual other then a minor disc bulging between C5 and C6. No lesions in the brain or spine. The doc told me that my symptoms are probably related to the accident and that they would reside eventually.
A few weeks after this, I started to notice that the tips of my fingers where tingling and it kind of felt like after you hit your funny bone. Even though I have a slight numbness on all fingers, the index finger and the thumb are most defined by that numbness and tingling.
I wen t to my family doctor to get a blood test done and the only thing that showed up unusual was the vitamin B-12 with a value of 280   I'm now getting weekly B-12 shots and am also seeing a Chiropractor. No improvement on ether the Lhermitte's sign nor the numbness. Lhermiite's sign is actually gradually getting worse with the buzzing and and electrical sensation now radiating down both legs upper body and down my arms into the finger tips. It seems to be worse over the day at work sitting behind a desk all day and not as bad when I get up in the morning or on weekends.
I'm 40 years old and starting to get concerned that these symptoms might all point to MS although the MRi did not show anything of that matter.
I'm still waiting for an appointment with a neurologist...

Joe

Hi Johgerna, have you had any luck in finding a diagnosis and treatment since 2012?

Curious to hear as I am experiencing much of the same symptoms as you.

Hope you are feeling better!

Best regards, Joel

Hi Shell,

again thanks for your help!
I'm waiting to see another doc in July... so I guess I'll just have to wait :-(

I talked to my cousin in Germany who is a doc and he thinks that it sounds more like symptoms resulting from my accident than MS but also says to get fully diagnosed. He told me part of the diag is to get a lumbar puncture done...  looking forward to that...

Your welcome.

That is an absolute shame, because they can manage you w/out operating as well. I'm seeing a spine group right now, and I'm scheduled for cervical epidural injections this Monday, and man am I excited to get out of pain.

Do you have all your reports from the imaging? A neuro may not be able to help if it's related to structural compression disc stuff. I'd def. line up a 2nd opinion w/another spine doc group if this one blew you off. You sound like you have classic symptoms they should be familiar with.

Chiro can def. help if you are getting PT from them. But, you have to be careful if all they want to do is adjust you.

Hi Shell,
thanks for your note!

The MRI was ordered through the Brain and Spine center here in MI. The doc I went to see at that time is a neurosurgeon and I think he stamped me off a little to quick as there was nothing for him to operate on.
All I know is that my numbness and tingling in both hands is gradually getting worse day by day and Lhermittes sign is changing also (getting more severe and radiating to different areas)
I hope to get a appointment with a neuro soon

That sounds classic lhermittes to me. Do you see a spine doc Joe?

Thanks for joining us. MSers experience lhermittes due to lesions w/in the spinal cord. But, at a recent eval for cervical herniations the spine doc definitely asked me questions about the electrical sensations and/or numbness that you mention here.

My lhermittes from spinal lesion is different than what I experience from the herniations. The sensation can vary from what I understand regardless the source (i.e., in the cord vs effect on the cord) I'm thinking you should get checked further for any sort of compression going on w/that bulging in that area.

I'm no good sitting or laying either. It's horrible, and hope you find some help.

btw  the electrical sensation only shows up when I tilt my head straight forward. Numbness in both hands is always there...
