M.R.I. reaction

Just had my third batch of mri's and was just wondering  how people react to them.

I have had a couple of mri's in the last  4-5 years , with no ill effects but the 3 sets that i have had in the last year have made me very disorientated/ confused ,affected my balance causing me to stagger and fall, slurred speech, affected my eye sight and caused me to have nausea.

I have had a couple of  3T MRI's of the brain and spinal chord, with and without Contrast. They take about 2.5 hours! Because they take so long, I was given a dose of Diazapam before going in. That was great because I pretty much just slept through the whole procedure! I always feel weak and dis oriented afterward but I think it's probably the meds. I usually need to sleep it off and then drink a lot of water. I have always felt fine after that.
Hugs,
Deb

That feeling of the wires tingling must have been scary.

I'd say that the mri must have started off a pseudo flair as i've felt awful the past week since i,ve had the scan done.

JJ, that reaction when you walk in for the scan and then can't get off your back is unhinging to say the least. some times i wonder if the radiologist thinks that i'm putting it on

you are the first person to describe how I felt when told to "get up" off the table after the MRI.  I couldn't do it.  Nothing I told my body to do obliged.
They had to help me up.

I've only had the one MRI session (brain and spine) 1.5T, no contrast, i'm pretty sure it took over an hour. I felt no negative anything during, biggest issue i had was trying to hold in the giggling during the spinal one, the tech's were actually holding their collective breaths that it wouldn't be too blurred. Well they did have a comedy show running and it was pretty funny.

The only sort of thing that was off afterwards, was after laying flat on my back for so long, i actually found it impossible to get up. I'm not actually sure saying i was heavy would describe it, more that i just couldn't follow through with the physical action of moving, odd the first time but no longer odd anymore. Still not sure if it had anything to do with the MRI or just another me thing lol

I was totalled from the outing, again not sure if i can blame it on the MRI.

Cheers.....JJ

My last MRI left me with hypertension which I've been about 3 weeks getting under control.  I will admit I have a pacemaker, which they assured me would be no problem but trust me, it will be my last MRI, my neuro will just have to "get over it" as I also felt those pacer wires tingle, get warm and I swear they moved around!  Cardio put me on Inderal and BP is back to normal range now, waiting to see if he wants to leave me on it.  Sorry I digressed there.

They were 3T MRI's ,brain, and full spine . With and without contrast takes 50 to 60 minutes.

What type of MRI were these? What type of MRI were the previous ones?

Yes - I had a reaction from the 3T MRI when they did the thoracic area. I was later informed that the 3T in the cervical/thoracic area will heat your core temperature.

I ended up with a mild pseudo-flare for about 24 hours after having it. Was not fun. My 3T MRI was done Dec 30th. I was diagnosed in February/March with CDMS.

I had an adverse reaction to the contrast after my first MRI... I was very pale, weak, had a headache... the experience was somewhat traumatic. But I admit I was in a fragile emotional state, so I'm not so quick to lay blame on the MRI experience itself.

All of the MRI's since (with contrast) have been uneventful. Just made me very sleepy.

Could the reaction come from being on your back in a horizontal position for a long period of time?  This might be bringing on some type of vestibular problem, or even causing vertigo that would take some time to resolve.

I have not heard of anyone having this problem with an MRI test.

I've never had a bad reaction to the contrast.  Mainly the problem with gadolinium is the liver - if you can process it, shouldn't be a problem.

However, whenever my neuro felt it necessary to give me an MRI, it was because I was flaring.

I find this very strange as an MRI shouldn't affect you in that way at all. Is it with contrast or without? Not sure if you are potentially reacting to the contrast..

These normally last 24 to 36 hours .
Has anybody else been effected like that
