Legs tightened up in Hallmark

I went to Hallmark to get a little V day gift for my daughter, walked in just fine.  Walked around just fine.  Then it was like a switch was flipped, and all of the sudden my legs tightened up and wouldn't work right.  That fast.  I had to concentrate so hard to put one foot in front of the other just to get to the counter.  Ok, all you smart people...is this spasticity?  They aren't "spazzing" (which is what I think of) they just get stiff and tight and awkward.  Thx, Amy

Hi, Amy!

I haven't talked to you for such a long time, tho I think of you often.  I'm sorry you had a bad experience and were alone.  It's always better when someone's there to lend a helping...shoulder or something.

I really don't know the answer, although it looks like you got some good ones!

Hope things improve.  How're the injections going?

Yes, prayers up for the injured and mourning.

Thank you all for your answers.  Man it was yucky being out by myself in public and having this happen.  It has happened when I've been out before but I've always had a kid or a cart to lean on!

Mcbcon, thanks for your definition.  Increased tendon reflexes sounds like what is going on.  They are all trying to do their own thing but not in unison.  Love to you all and prayers for our kids at the Chicago University, Amy

FROM MY EXPERIENCE IT IS SPASTICITY.  I FEEL IT ALWAYS, WENT TO SEE A PHYSIATRIST AND SHE HAD ON OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY AND PHYSICAL THERAPY AND BOTH TREATMENTS HAVE HELPED A GREAT DEAL.

SHE ALSO ORDER ME TO WEAR LEG BRACES ON BOTH MY LEGS AND EVEN THOUGH, I WOULD NOT WEAR DRESSES OR SKIRTS AYMORE (THE BRACES ARE NOT FASHIONABLE) I HAVE TO ADMIT THAT THEY WORKING VERY WELL FOR ME.

I HAVE GOTTEN TO THE POINT THAT IF I AM NOT WEARING THEM, I FEEL LIKE I FORGOT HOW TO WALK AND DO IT VERY CLUMSY.

I HOPE THAT YOUR SPASTICITY CAN BE WORKED OUT WITH EXERCISES BECAUSE THE BRACES COST AN ARM AND LEG, IF THEY ARE IN GOOD SHAPE, HA, HA.  IF YOU NEED TO WEAR THEM I HOPE THAT YOUR MEDICAL INSURANCE COVERS IT, MINE DID NOT.  IN THE LONG RUN IT SEEM LIKE A GREAT INVESTMENT IN QUALITY OF LIFE.

TALK IT OUT WITH YOUR NEURO OR PCP AND ASK FOR SOME GUIDANCE.  THEY SHOULD BE ABLE TO PROVIDE YOU WITH SOME EASY SOLUTIONS AND EVEN WORK OUT A ROUTINE OF OT AND PT.

GOOD LUCK AND I HOPE YOU FEEL BETTER SOON.

TAKE CARE

My legs get like lead and I can't do much more than shuffle my feet. Then sometimes, when I am standing, it feels like a muscle cramp, or "spasm" that starts at my lower back and works it way down my calfs. Yech!

Yeah, I think it's spasticity too.

I had this when getting on the escalator one time - my leg moved forward, then stopped and moved back a little, like it was confused, and I got a cramp in that leg.

I have the worst time in malls!  I don't know whether it's the lighting, or the walking, or what.

Amy,

The same thing happens to my legs.  They get/are stiff . Then I have to concentrate . Heel toe glide, heel toe glide ( pt last yr.) ..   slow and smooth .. and the best I can manage is a kind of awkward stiff hitching kind of motion . I hate any one to walk in back of me . I'm very self conscious and embarrassed . I know I shouldn't be but I am . No dx. means , do you really have something going on or are you nuts / crackers ?   What every happened to the Cracker Club?

.. This a.m. on my walk  I had a nice smooth gait (first time in 2wks.) . This afternoon forget it, back the the same old stuff. And in Block Buster I felt like I was sinking into the carpet, legs heavy ??

Oh , to answer your question , I do think the stiffness has something to do with spasticity .Quix has talked about it .  Sorry, I went off on my own thing for awhile , I do that .
