Talk about a rough day!

So we're being inspected today by the state and higher - bad enough start to the day. I get to work and am told that one of my clients was murdered last night by a neighbor in a silly disagreement. Mind you, my client is a 20 year old with mental retardation. Absolutely crushed.

But wait, it gets worse. In the afternoon, some dofus decides to rob the bank 2 doors down from my office with hostages and a homemade bomb strapped to his chest. So our entire block is barracaded for hours, with SWAT, police, helicopters...the works.

Finally get home in time for my spazapoloosa - been REALLY bad this whole week - and my DH doesn't even look over from the soccer game on tv (granted we are HUGE soccer fans in my house) to see if I need help. Shortly later asks why I didn't do something (can't remember what is was now, I was so mad at the time). I couldn't stand up for heaven's sake!

I give in; I'm going to play some online poker and hide before anything else dreadful happens! Some days you're just better staying in bed, lol!

Done whining now

Penn

Thanks as always for all your support and humor. I needed that. They did catch both the robber and the low life scum who killed my client. It takes a truly hoorible person to kill a young person with mental retardation. I've been torturing the guy in my head, then remember that I'm a Christian woman and must stop that. I do adore all my folks and would work for free if I could pay my mortgage that way. I do still do some work for free (some of my volunteer work and taking folks out who have no supportive family). I take offenses to my folks bery personally. Lost another today...this one to cancer. He was my age. Bad WEEK, not day!

There was also a van vs semi accidnet which killed 3 people from a group home yesterday. None of them were mine, but keep them in your prayers anyway. Some staff died in that accident too.

No money fell my way from the robbery - since they got him I guess none went his way either, lol!  I work in a not so great area. Thankfully I live in a relatively rural area - somewhere between rural and the 'burbs. Peaceful.

I coudln't even win @ poker, darn it! I'm usually very good. Your mental state is important in poker. If you're down you won't play well. Thank goodness its not real money!

Gonig to see "Jesus Christ Superstar" on stage tomorrow. Hopefully the stage won't cave in or anything with me there...ok not funny;)

My heartfelt prayers for you and your client. How sad... Did the bank robbers dribble any cash while they were running away? You could scoop some up! LOL Hope you enjoyed your poker game. Do you play anyone? I used to play Cribbage online on MSN games, but everyone got tired of me beating them and quit playing me...True !  Do take some "me" time as Deb suggests. Easier said than done I know. How long with the inspectors be there. I know what a hassel that can be. Take care, prayers and hugs.

Oh my goodness, you've been through the mill!  I'm so sorry about the death of your client.  I worked in a state school for people with mental retardation for nearly thirteen years before I started teaching.  My clients ended up to be like family.  In fact, for many of the people, the staff and I WERE family.  Many of the residents had very little family contact, if any.

Even then, you've put your heart and soul into their care.  I know working with people with mental retardation is a very difficult job.  The pay is typically not very good, you're understaffed, and you are monitored with strict scrutiny from the state and federal governments (especially the state).

You are an unsung hero.  I'm sure; however, you don't see it that way, because you will probably say that you love what you do.  But trust me, you really are.  I thank God that there are people who truly care.

You must be a rock, Penn, but it may be necessary for some "me" time.  You certainly don't want to cause a flare up and be unable to be there for your clients.
