Question about a diagnosis of MS

I have been diagnosed for the second time with optic neuritis.  My eye specialist had me get an MRI and then referred me on to a neurologist.  The MRI showed one white matter brain lesion consistent with MS, I'm still awaiting results of my spinal tap.  My neurologist said he's positive I have MS and is wanting to start meds due to my second round of optic neuritis.  I do have other symptoms as well, numbness and tingling, vertigo, headaches, muscle stiffness.  Is there any way this could be something other than MS?

Hello everyone,   I had my apt with my neurologist to get my results of my spinal tap.  They were negative, so he has reconsidered starting meds right now.  He still diagnosed me with MS, he just thinks as of right now it's too mild to treat.  So Dr. apts every three months.

Hi Sarah

I feel very similar to you and am determined to have a positive outlook. I know that it is a shock to be dx'd with MS but I can feel your relief that you know what you have and can now take control and do whatever you can to help yourself.

Keep well and good luck.

Love Sarah x

I had my apt with my neurologist this morning, and my other tests were positive, I guess the denial stage is over.  I'm going to have a positive outlook and do all I can to stay healthy, he said I'm one of the lucky ones as was mentioned some people don't get diagnosed for years and they caught mine early.  Thank you all for your help.

God Bless,

Sarah

HI there,

Welcome. There are lots of mimics of MS. You can ask the Dr. what else he checked you for.

That way, you will feel more comfortable with the dx when he or she tells you all that you don't have and why you were dx'd w/MS.

Thanks for joining us. Hope we can help you wrap your head around this dx.

hope you get your answers soon, you have symptoms that could be MS or other Dx... but your neuro seems to feel it's MS...I know waiting is one of the hardest parts.

hope it doesn't take too long

It sounds like MS, but at this point it's hard to say.  I think that if your neurologist is positive it's MS, then it probably is.  They don't give those diagnoses away for free.  Many people here with worse symptoms currently remain undiagnosed.
