No sensation of needing to urinate

After having a long period where I had urgency, I've now got the problem of zero sensation of needing to urinate.  It's only when I get a sore stomach that it suddenly occurs to me that I need to go.

Has anyone else experienced this problem?

Thanks

My worst is dreaming about it and waking up wet. Polly my elderly retired Service dog and I have the same problem. I am beyond losing my dignity over it.

LOL 2 seconds if your lucky right? I do the kegal clench every time, though i can't move until it stops, once in a blue moon the action will stop long enough to get me through the bathroom door, or the key in the lock but more often than not my bladder doesn't pay any attention when the urge hits, once my bladder has the green light it's go go go and soggie socks time.

I think i still rather get some warning though not much of one, than the no sensation running down your leg events. I've mentioned before that i have an issue with wearing incontinence pants that go up to my arm pits and feel as comfortable as wearing a loaf of bread lol

Cheers..........JJ

Well, no feminine hygiene product or old lady incontinence pants would be of the slightest use to me in one of these events. This not a leak, it's a total flood.

Does anyone experience this?  Urgency -- gotta go NOW! ... But if I think about it, sometimes the urgent feeling goes away.  30 seconds later, (the moment I'm distracted) -- it's too late :(.

Frustrating ... you finally no longer need feminine hygiene products and then your budget is blown again ...

Yup, often there are times when the signal that I have to go gives me 2 seconds before it's all over. Sometimes I make it, sometimes I almost make it. The worst is when it happens in public. I have had times when the 'squeeze' muscles just don't work, and it's as if someone else or something else is in charge. I'm just a witness to the embarrassing thing that's happening but I can't control it at all.

The only thing that works is using a schedule and going whether or not I have to. Annoying but better than the alternative.

I have this problem and then I realize I have to urinate and I have to run. Most times I do not make it. I take my puzzle book and sit on the toilet for several minutes until I urinate. I think it contributed to my kidney stones.

Bringing up this older post -- I'm now I my third go-round of non-feeling -- as long as I stick to a schedule and don't get distracted, it's fine. Last summer it was awful and I ended up catheterized for a couple of weeks.

Supper time with everyone home is the worst time.

No dx yet, save for the neurogenic bladder one.

Thought there was good information in Rendean's post and wanted to bump it up for new folks.

Thank you so much, Ren ... I had looked at the health pages, but not seen these (probably because at the time this wasn't happening to me).  I don't think my doctor even mentioned these issues in my referral to the ms specialist.

BTW Quix is funny.  I will never think of the expression "in a nutshell" in the same way again :-P.

Dear Poppy and others,

You bladder issues can indeed be due to MS. Quix wrote several wonerful Health Pages on the subject.  The first explains the anatomy of how the need to urinate occurs.

http://www.medhelp.org/health_pages/Multiple-Sclerosis/The-Neurology-of-Bladder-Incontinence/show/758?cid=36

The second part is under this link:

http://www.medhelp.org/health_pages/Multiple-Sclerosis/Urinary-Incontinence-PT---Part-Deux/show/760?cid=36

Dr. Quix does a wonderful job explaining all of this and the different kinds of problems...much better than I can do.

Hope these links help!

I don't have that exact problem. I have the urgency to go but sometimes when I get into the restroom, I can't go right away. You'd think it would be the exact opposite. Not sure if it is MS related or not. Seems like I had that problem in my 20s, and was on medication for it for awhile. Then I again, I have no idea how long I had MS before I was diagnosed. I guess I'm not helpful either.

Yes, definitely! I should say that I am undiagnosed, but with symptoms for a number of years. I've never had the urgency that others talk about, but I do have periods (usually when my symptoms are worse) where I have 'bladder problems'.

Like you've described, I don't get the usual feeling of needing to 'go', but instead get a bladder pain (like you get when you've been trying to hold it for a while). Even then, I have to sit on the toilet for e few minutes and wait for a very slow stop-and-start trickle to try and empty my bladder. I also have no sensation of when I am finished, and usually have to wait for the noise to stop before I am sure.

Like Aspentoo, I have absolutely no idea how to 'fix' this, and it's just one of the things I've learnt to live with.

Good luck, Ava

For about a week I could feel pressure only, but not the normal signal.  Then for about three weeks, NOTHING.  Having said that, the feeling seems to be coming back again?

Absolutely no idea why, and no idea how to fix it. I'm not very useful lol.
