OT - Dog Show Win Today

Hi all... Certainly off topic, but wanted to let you that are interested know that I had my 8 month old puppy's first AKC dog show today, and we did alright.  I didn't fall with my dumb numb legs, and we managed to be the winner above the other males entered and earned our first point.  Matter of fact, he was second place among all the other great danes entered following a fawn girl that went Best of Breed.  We are doing the happy dance.  :)

Yes, I am going to do that with him.
I had a boy years ago trained as a service dog, and this puppy currently has a  litter mate sister in training as well.  :)

You ever thought of using him as a Service Dog? I trained my dalmatian. He could help you walk, keep people off your weak side ( they make room for the dog), bring your cell phone if you fall, Pull you from a chair to a standing position, pull a shopping cart, and brace when you fall so you can climb off the floor.

Thank you all. I'm pretty proud of my baby. Yes, he's a big boy for 8 months at 125 pounds.  He'll probably get to 170 when full grown around 3 years old..  They are certainly a loving distraction.  :)

Critters rule :-) I think animals of all stripes can have a really positive effect on us. I've had my cats for 6 years and not a day has gone by when one of them didn't do sonmething to make me laugh! They are amazing de-stressors :)

Thanks all.  Dogs are such important companions, no matter what their "job" is with us, even if it's only to offer love and comfort.  I love my big guys. They are gentle, goofy, and fun-loving members of the family first - show dogs second, which is only a hobby.  :)

He did win another point today, but I needed to hand him off to a pro handler this time.  He was being naughty (What? It's not playtime???), and I was feeling a bit wobbly in the legs, and I didn't want to risk a crash and burn in the ring.  She got him settled and pulled the win out of him so I couldn't be happier.

I hope you all had a great weekend!

I have the "smarty pants" Aussie, who thinks she knows more than me but she was there when I fell yesterday, doing all the right things.  Her service dog chores are a breeze to her but her socialization still lagging.  She has a lot of puppy left in her, is 14 months old now.

I can't remember being without her.  When I'm upset, she sits in my lap, yep all 67#, and lets me rub and scratch her til I calm down and then I get a kiss kiss on the cheek and she takes off for her few toys she hasn't torn up.

Congrats on your success!
@Karen, yes food, affection and let me tease you with the ball before you throw it!

Gorgeous dog!  Congrats on your point. And on staying upright!  :)  I bet he's just a big (BIG!) love isn't he? I've never had a great dane, but I've never met one who wasn't sweet natured.

We have your basic black lab (my husband is into classic in all things, and black labs are "classic" in his book) who looks small next to your guy, and is quirky and spoiled utterly rotten and answers to Lump and Doofus. As long as he gets the right amount of food (like as much as possible) affection (see first amount) and ball-tossing, he'll answer to anything. ;-)

What would we do without our furry companions?
