OT -Pics of Tattoo if Interested

Finally got a couple of pics up for anyone interested ... :)  It actually looks even prettier in person.  When you click on the photos here, it blows up crazy big, lol.  That makes it look kinda blurry, I think.  In person, it just looks very feminine and detailed.  I am toying with having the guy make the colors more intense on the white and yellow callas, and on the ribbon.  I have to go back this week for him to check it to see if it needs any touch ups (now that it's totally healed), so I'll see what he thinks.

Thank you again to all of you who wrote emails for me, and who got enthusiastic and were encouraging me in this - I really appreciate all your time and effort!  I'm so glad I got it done - and I honestly don't think anyone at LA Ink could have captured what I wanted any better.  I love to see it and realize it's now a part of me - a tangible representation of my own personal journey.  But I have to tell you ... I TOTALLY underestimated how much it was going to hurt, lol!  Apparently on your ribs and down your side is one of the most painful places to get a tattoo - who knew??  :)

Thanks again to everyone ... you guys are awesome!

Rita, that's fabulous!!  Lovely symbolism, great artwork.  You have a skilled tat artist.  Keep it moisturized...

Thanks much ... :)

The good news is that it's all healed now, so not sore or peeling or itching anymore, lol!  But the first few days, every time I turned or moved, I could feel it pull - hadn't thought about that ahead of time!  It was also weird to see it peel in colors ... obviously made perfect sense, but it just hadn't dawned on me that it would do that.  Since this was the first tattoo for me, it was a learning experience ...

Bye for now,
Rita

Hi Rita,

Just took a look at the 'photos now, and I have to say it's really really elegant, and the meaning behind it, is so special.

You chose a really good place to have it done on your ribs, I must say I bet that was painful, especially there!!

Way to go g/f, I,m so pleased for you, it's beautiful, and spectacular.

Hugs (best not press to hard just in case it's still sore ;)))

Thank you ... :)  I got it on my left side, because I wanted it only to show if I chose to - I didn't want it visible to just anyone.  It starts on my last 2 or 3 ribs, and then curves down to the top of my hip bone.  It fits the area perfectly, and "flows" with the line of my body - the tattoo artist did an awesome design, and he did a great job of interpreting my sketch and concept...

Bye for now,
Rita

It is strikingly beautiful, and when you describe the symbolism, it makes so much sense.  I'm sorry, but I don't remember the location on your body where you had it done, so would you mind repeating that?  Especially since you talked about ribs and nerves and such.

Very pretty, and I'm happy for you.

Tonya and gypcwmn,

Thanks for the kind comments!

Tonya, I just sent you a PM with a little more info ... :).

Gypcwmn, what design did you get and where did you get it, if you don't mind me asking?  Mine was 3 1/2 hrs and hurt alot more than I thought it would - and I have a pretty high pain threshold, lol!

Bye for now,
Rita

Very nice Tat! Tonya the pain is more annoying than painful. It also depends on where you get it on your body. Mine took 3hrs was not bad at all.

Addi and Ren,

Thank you ... :)  I'm really happy with how it turned out.  I had kind of worried if it could be done how I had pictured it in my head, cause I didn't want a heavy outline - I wanted it to have a more "delicate" and shaded look, but he did a great job.  I had done a sketch of it, and he drew his own design based on that - I like how he did the ribbon better than how I did it, lol!!

As far as the symbolism, it just kind of popped in my head one day, don't ask me why.  But I've taken the general concept and used it in my sketch and in a flower arrangement ... it was just perfect for me.  I had always wanted a tattoo but could never find the "perfect" one, but now I finally did... :)  Kinda weird getting my first tattoo at 47, but I usually never do things the way normal people do, lol!!

Bye for now,
Rita

Rita,
It is beautiful and the symbolism is extraordinary! As for it being a part of you, so is MS so I think it is quite appropriate.

I didn't realize the issue concerning the pain dependent on the location you chose but then I look at it as another piece of symbolism.  The pain reflects what MS has done to your body.

Enjoy your new artwork!

That is a beautiful tat, Rita!  And the symbolism is also very touching, too.  Whoever did the work, did an amazing job!

Thanks you guys ... :)  I'm really happy with it - I still keep looking at it and realizing it's actually a part of me now, you know?

And I'm not brave, just stupid, lol!!  I had no idea that was one of the most painful places to get a tattoo.  The guy explained it at the end ... you have WAY more nerves along your sides, because there are no bones to protect the organs, so the body wants to have sort of an early warning system for anything that could cause harm.  Learned that one the hard way ... ;-)  The ribs weren't too pleasant, either, lol.

Talk to ya later,
Rita

Good idea - I hadn't thought of posting the symbolism again.... :)

The tattoo itself kind of represents my journey with MS, and the fact that it has made my faith in God so much stronger.

The center, white calla lily (callas are my favorite flower) represents my faith in God.

The yellow calla lily represents the grace I receive from my faith, to handle whatever comes my way, good days and bad, with as much dignity as possible.

The red calla lily represents the strength I receive from my faith ... strength to get thru the painful times... the frustrating times ... the down times ... and all the other times.  The strength to remind myself that tomorrow is always a new day, and to also be able to search for the joy in each day, even if it's just some little thing.  The strength to always try to keep pushing myself, even in small ways ... to always keep fighting, even when I think I'm too tired to do that any more ....

The orange ribbon represents the MS itself ... the catalyst for the many changes I've gone thru and the ones that are still ahead of me, both good and bad.

It probably sounds kind of corny, but once the symbolism came into my head, I couldn't get it out, and I realized it was the perfect tattoo that I've always wanted.  I am still working on my drawing (David captured it so well for the tattoo!), and hope in the end it will look good enough to mat and frame... :)

Bye for now,
Rita
