SEPSIS

My Cousin is 30 yrs old and was diagnosed with MS 4 yrs ago.
Sunday he had a pain in his abdomen, was delirious and running a fever of 103.9. He was able to walk until the fever hit. His brother carried him to the car and took him to the hospital. It was a UTI and Yesterday when I went to see him ,The doctors said the infection spread to his BLOODSTREAM!!!. His fever is down but flutters between 97 & 100. He has been there 3 days and not walked...
I NEED TO KNOW what to expect? ( I am not next of kin but he is like a brother and I feel shut out by his mother)

Side note: He was previously able to function somewhat normally aside from sometimes when his speech would slur, he would fall, he was unable to control his bladder and could not maintain a job. The disease seemed to be progressing fast as his wife announced a week ago she wanted him out of the house and a divorce (which he was strongly against)

Please help

I am in the same position now, only my husband was diagnosed with MS 10 years ago.  I am at a loss for an answer.

Hi Ayl - Welcome to our group.

There are no doctors here so we can't really speak to your cousin's recovery from infection.

Bladder issues associated with MS often lead to bladder/urinary tract infections. It sounds like his had gotten pretty far along by the time it was addressed. Now that it is being addressed it's hard to predict what effect, if any, it has had on his neurological state.

As Alex said, it will be easier to gauge any neurological changes after the infection is gone.

Keep us posted.

After the infection dies down his symptoms may die down to. Fever and infection can make MS worse.

Not every spouse is good with chronic illness. He has little control over her unfortunately.
